Islamophobia In The Modern World

Introduction

Islamophobia is the fear, hatred, and prejudice which other people have against the Muslims and Islamic religion. Muslims across the world are facing issues because of their religion and often they are considered terrorists in western countries. With the passage of time the hate against Muslims are getting more and more which has led to the concept of Islamophobia in western societies.

What is Islam

Islam is a religion of peace and harmony and an Abrahamic, monotheistic religion teaching that there is no God but Allah Almighty, and Muhammad is the last messenger of God. It is the world’s second-largest religion after Christianity. There are more than 1.9 billion followers of this religion which makes 24.4% of world’s population out of total population.

What is Terrorism

The unlawful use of violence and intimidation, especially against civilians, in the pursuit of political aims. Terrorism has been practiced by political organizations with both rightist and leftist objectives, by nationalistic and religious groups.

Terrorism is not something new which the world is facing nowadays but relating it to Islam started after 9/11 which end with the killing of thousands of people in America. Islamophobia is totally a new concept that is becoming a serious issue for the world nations and especially for Muslims being blamed for acts of terrorism in different countries though Muslims themselves are the main victims.

Purpose of study

The purpose of this study is to explore whether there is any link between Islam and Terrorism in today’s world. Does Islam allows killing of other human beings and using the concept of islamophobia by western countries against the Muslims can lead to any serious conflict between the Islam and other religions.

Significance

This study aims to know about the concept of Islamophobia and its side effects on the lives of Muslims across the globe. Before the incident of 9/11, there was no concept of Islamophobia or if there was it might have been less but after the attack of the World Trade Centre in which 2606 people were killed and 6000 people got injured the Muslims got directly blamed for terrorist attacks in different countries. American government called War on terror which turned to war against Muslims in real words. Iraq and Afghanistan got invaded by American troops. The invasion of Iraq in 2003 was the first stage of the American Governments War on Terror and left Iraq by 31 December 2011. On the other hand, invasion of Afghanistan in 2011 which resulted in killing and migration of millions of afghans across the world. The recent conflicts of Syria and Iraq have left millions of refugees behind which are given asylum in America, UK, Europe and Canada but the migration of Muslims in these countries have raised new problems such as Islamophobia. Furthermore, we will study what consequences Islamophobia may have for Muslims and other religions.

Literature review

Islamophobia relates to the fear, hatred and dislike of Muslims by the Western societies or physical or verbal attack on once property place of worship and their religious identity such as men and women wearing.

Islamophobia did exist before the terrorist attack of 9/11 but it frequently got increased during some years. The Runnymede Trust is a UK trust which has issued different reports of islamophobia from 1997 and then in 2004 after the attack of 11 September 2001. The report shows that Muslim life has turned more difficult in the UK.

In a meeting conducted in 2011, the League of Arab and United Nations Alliance identified islamophobia as an important issue. Different researches show that just in America approximately 160 American-Muslims were identified as terrorist suspects after the attack of 9/11 and this is just a small amount act of violence which is done against Muslims because of their religious believes each year. Not only security agencies of America but Media coverage also labels American Muslims as terrorist suspects to national attention which intentionally creates an impression of Muslims being as terrorists. Muslims across the world reports of not Bing respected in west and significant percentage of many western countries show the same sentiment that they the western societies don’t respect Muslim societies.

A recent example of islamophobia is the late 2009 ban recommendation by the largest party of Swiss parliament on Islamic constructions but the ban recommendation was opposed by the government calling it harmful to the country’s image Though 60% of the Swiss population had voted in favor of the ban which leads to the objection of Pakistan and different organizations such as United Nations.

In recent years the concept of islamophobia has been fuelled up in Europe. Minorities are often considered as scapegoats in times of economic and political crises. Nearly 20 million Muslims are living in Europe and some of them are considered a threat to European culture and way of living though they have lived in those countries for generations. Different myths circulate in European society such as the (Islamization) of Europe. The terrorist attacks have totally changed the public opinion of other societies towards the Muslims living in their countries such as the attacks of London, Paris, Brussels and Barcelona which resulted in the increase of fear and anxiety.

Analysis

According to Federal Bauru of investigation reports which was released in November the number of attacks on Muslim Mosques and properties and other hate crimes against Muslims in 2015 was higher than any other time. During the year 2015, there were 257 incidents recorded as compared to other years.

According to Southern Property Law Centre reports released there has been a dramatic growth noticed in the creation of new anti-Muslim hate groups jumping from 34 During 2015 to 101 in 2016 which means a 197% increased has been witnessed. Phycologists are trying their best to respond to this growing attitude of people towards islamophobia, psychologists are working to overcome the anti-Muslimism bias. The hateful attitude towards Muslims permits them to be discriminatory towards others.

According to Nadal, Muslims get stereotyped as terrorists, violent, and criminal and the other problem which the Muslims face in America is that they are not considered as true Americans. These all discriminations result in negative consequences which not only hurt Muslims but also undermine U.S employers. The work discrimination against the Muslim women wearing hijab in the workplaces in the industries can have a negative impact such as low productivity and when the same Muslim women or any other worker is supported you will have a positive impact on their ability to do their jobs well.

Knowing the negative impacts of islamophobia on society the American Psychologist are working to make sure that American Muslims get the kind of help which they need. Muslims living in first world country like America even faces many problems such as health treatment, lack of jobs, etc. one of the other main areas that they focus is the bullying of Muslim students in different institutes. According to a study conducted in 2015 by 600 students, half of them have experienced bullying and being called a terrorist, and female students pulled off their hijabs from their heads which will hurt the student’s carrier and .behavior
