How Do The Industries In Mikocheni, Dar-Es-Salaam Contribute To Global Warming?
Mikocheni marks the home for most of the industries in Dar-es-Salaam, it holds up to 25 industries. There are also homes, schools, universities, shopping centers etc. around the area. My previous school was located in Mikocheni B. It was located in such an area that it was surrounded by almost five industries. I had been studying in that school for the past twelve years and I remember that during class hours we could hear the noises from the glass cutting industry and the plastic recycling factory. One day on the school bus; while returning home from school, I had seen dark smoke covering the sky and the teacher on the bus mentioned that it was from an industry located nearby, I was stunned by the amount of smoke being released into the atmosphere, then I recognized that this was just one of the industries causing the air pollution in the area, just visualize how many industries are there and how many cause pollutions to the environment, and such air pollutions are the reasons of global warming in today’s world. I then decided to find out how do the industries in Mikocheni, Dar-es-Salaam contribute to global warming. Global warming is mainly caused because of the build of the greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, warming of the climate system is unequivocal, and since the 1950’s many of the observed changes are unprecedented over decades to millennia.
The atmosphere and ocean have warmed driving the weather systems and causing droughts, storms and flooding, the amounts of snow and ice have diminished, and sea level has risen. Human influence on the climate system is clear and recent emissions of greenhouse gases are the highest in history, recent climate changes have had widespread impact on humans and natural systems. The greenhouse gas that contributes to global warming is carbon dioxide and it will remain in the atmosphere for hundreds of years. Carbon dioxide is produced by cars, trucks, generators and all internal combustion engines. It also comes from electricity generation and industrial processes that use coal, oil or gas.
Burning of fossil fuels is one of the causes of air pollution. Sulphur dioxide is one of the greenhouse gases. Acid rain does not corrode metals. High concentration of nitrogen dioxide results in respiratory problems.
Global warming is as a result of a number of issues principally the emission of “Green House” gases into the atmosphere due to mankind’s excessive burning of fossil fuels. To date the global mean temperature has risen just over one degree centigrade about pre-industrial levels. If there is no change in human behavior the mean global temperature will most likely increase by more than 4 degrees by the end of the century “increasing the likelihood of severe, pervasive and irreversible impacts for people and ecosystems”. Warming of the climate system is unequivocal, and since the 1950s, many of the observed changes are unprecedented over decades to millennia. The atmosphere and ocean have warmed driving the weather systems and causing droughts, storms and flooding, the amounts of snow and ice have diminished, and sea level has risen. Human influence on the climate system is clear, and recent emissions of greenhouse gases are the highest in history. Recent climate changes have had widespread impacts on human and natural systems.
The key “Green House” gas that contributes to global warming is CO2 and it will remain in the atmosphere for hundreds of years. CO2 is produced by cars, trucks, generators and all internal combustion engines. It also comes from electricity generation and industrial processes that use coal, oil or gas.
