Growing Plants on Another Planet with the Help of Simulated Photosynthesis

In this essay i am going to talk about a questions that I ask myself that is “can we grow plants in another planet?” It is a subject that makes many points to treat because depend of several factors. Maybe you will ask yourself why do we need plants in another planet? ... well because the human already went to the moon and the Nasa are planning to go to Mars where they will need oxygen.

The plants are originally from water and when plants had to grow outside the water they had to adapt for keep in vertical position. It need gravity as well as water and sunlight. We know that the plants for develope need to do the “Photosynthesis”. Roughly the process of the photosynthesis requires sunlight, water and carbon dioxide and oxygen is released. Humans and animals need it to keep alive.

Plants for their development need gravity. It is a factor as important as the control of salinity or water. If we observe the conditions in which a plant would have to develop and survive in space or another planet we will find with: drought, light, water too cold. A plant would have to adapt in the space to the temperature of the space, the light that is coming from the planet of the space or the fall of the meteorites.

Researching in some websites I have found some information about this and with some difficulties it could be possible cultivate plants in another planet. For example with a different light of our planet, the earth and like we said before a different gravity, a different temperature. Until now I was talking about how it is the nature and the science at this day, now I am going to explain how I will try in this moment make a plant grow in another planet. I would choose Mars because a few reasons, it’s near us, it have characteristic as much as physical as environment condition more similar to our planet the earth than another planet. For cultivate the plants we need some conditions that in this moment we could try to reproduce in Mars. We would have to transportate water, substratum for the plant, light in form of a lamp,oxygen and CO2 and space to cultivate them.

We would make in Mars a greenhouse or a containers in which inside them we will instalate all the necessary thing that the plant need to grow, and we would programate the lamps simulating our times of sun. I informe myself that it could produces artificial gravity. So in this way we would have the conditions that a plant need to grow. From this moment we could go to experiencing trying to change some condition forcing the plants to adapt to it. From the same form that in conditions natural the plants adapted to the evolution of the planet.

Like a fact a spanish astronote he had been in a project called “Mission Cervantes” in which they studies the growth of the plants in the space.

I think that with time and a lot of investigation in a future we could make plants grow in Mars. Also I think that is a good idea make grow plants in Mars in a future because after that we are going to put surely animals and after that we are going to do the same thing that we did with the earth. Maybe in a future we have overpopulation in the earth and some of us could go to Mars ounces it’s like Earth.
