Facebook As The New Form Bio Sociality

There has been a significant increase in the prevalence of Non- communicable diseases (NCDs) over the last 25 years. Along with this phenomena, trend new invention on NCD medication treatment is also increasing. All actors in the healthcare sector are in development process to find best medication treatment for patient. Sometimes, a less consuming time medication treatment represents more efficient treatment for the patient.

However, patient is not always in the same page. They often get more painful or have unpleasant experience during the process yet their voice has not been taking into account. Denmark is one of the countries in the world that trying to put patient’s perspective into account for every development in healthcare sector. Facebook is being used as the common ground to initiate the idea. Facebook represents as a tool that can exchange knowledge between patient and healthcare practitioner quickly. The idea behind using Facebook as the boundary object is to translate the complex process using a very practical tools that can be used by different entities to share the usage for certain goal. In this case, a complex process that need to be translated is the process behind patient involvement. It includes different interest of actors where creativity of the expert is much needed yet knowledge reference is not available. Facebook is represent as a common ground those different entities to share their certain goals. For patient, they use Facebook as bio sociality to share their aspiration during medication process. They use it to gather support and share same experience during treatment process. They put their doubts, questions or complaints into the sharing platform.

On the other hand, healthcare practitioners see this as an opportunity to get feedback and see the result from different perspective. What are written on the Facebook is a powerful data to get insight and evaluation from patient. They realize that valuing the patient experience is an important thing. Emerging this urgency, Facebook holds important role for bridiging both parties to share the desire goal. Facebook help them understand the complex situations between various actors that are involved on a certain project, despite having different and oftentimes conflicting interests from lens of boundary objects. The boundary object facilitates communication between them; although they have a different identity in each social world. (ibid, p. 409). In order to form Facebook as a bio sociality tool, it has to be built based on theory of heterogeneous engineering. Facebook patient forum should represents a necessarily tangled and complex network of technical relations (technological design), social relations (regulations and social culture) and natural relations between them. We cannot separate these three factors out. This is because technical relations should be based on the same level with social relations and natural relations. Before the design the platform technically, they should considered there is social relations that is unavoidably reflect and embed for organizational decision making. And It should be relate with natural relations between them, as well as natural properties is always reflected and embedded during the interactions process.

For technical reason, the patient involvement platform was built on Facebook since it represents the simplest platform than the others. Facebook been reached out almost 2. 2 million users in the world. Thus, it has own beneficial if Facebook is used as the platform where all people were already know its features. It represents that the technology is not build separately from the social world. Rather, they are constantly defining and re-defining a sociotechnical world by choosing what technology or platform that will suit best for the society based on local cultures and natural factors. The platform is also relied on social relations aspects since it is regulated based on social cultures that embedded in the society. A comprehensive set of legal rights governs complaint procedures and compensation for injuries is based on what implies on the society. For example, the platform should complied with user’s privacy law. All actors should considered to protecting the data of the users while build the platform. Protecting data usage were also means to keep the objectivity and the neutrality of the forum in order to keep it as the main goal.

The Disciplinary Board of the Danish Healthcare system acts an impartial public authority that is responsible for making sure that knowledge gained from patient is complied with the legal system.
