Debate on How Artificial Intelligence Will Change the Future
The hypothesis for this research paper is that artificial intelligence will change the future by impacting many aspects of people’s lives. Today, technology has become an essential part of every part of our lives. Automatic toasters make our breakfast, smartphones wake us up, and washing machines wash our clothes (Davenport et al. 1). Progressively, these machines can mimic human cognitive behavior and can be programmed with instructions to automatically perform a complex set of actions (Davenport et al. 1). As functions and services become more reliant on technology across the world, artificial intelligence is expected to influence many changes in the future (Davenport et al. 1). The purpose of this study is to understand how artificial intelligence will change the future and impact the lives of people.
Even though there is no uniformly agreed definition, Artificial intelligence (AI) refers to machines that react to stimulation consistent with typical traditions from humans with the human capacity for observation, judgment, and intention (Davenport et al. 1). Artificial intelligence involves various technologies namely machine learning, deep learning, artificial neural network, and natural language processing. Machine learning is the most significant part of AI which provides technology systems with the ability to learn and improve (Abiodun). Deep learning, on the other hand, is a subgroup of machine learning which relies on learning data representation (Abiodun). According to West and John, artificial neural networks are a framework for machine learning algorithms that facilitate data input. Natural language processing refers to a technique used by AI to synthesize and analyze speech as well as natural language (Abiodun).
AI is applicable in various industries, including security, marketing, manufacturing, retail, transportation, and communication. Even though AI has positive impacts in the world today, the technology is not entirely perfect. However, AI is expected to improve in the future and change the world. For instance, AI is expected to facilitate invention and innovation, carry out dangerous jobs, and also solve climate problem issues in the future. AI is perceived as a significant technology given its innovative ability to transform the world.
Furthermore, biometric technologies like fingerprint recognition, facial emotion, and machine learning are all aspects of AI. AI has revolutionized many processes by making machines smarter. AI experts believe that the application of AI in buildings, vehicles, business processes, and farms will save resources, time, and money. Widening the use of AI across many industries will transform people’s lives and provide opportunities to better the world. AI will provide solutions in areas such as medicine, transportation, communication, and cybersecurity.
Moreover, AI will help in not only restructuring society but also combating numerous socio-economic problems across the world. Nevertheless, there are substantial uncertainties regarding AI such as the delegation of decision-making processes to machines, the possibility of technological change to violate governance and policy norms. Moreover, automation may affect business operations and employment. In the future, artificial intelligence (AI) is more likely to change the world through advancing the marketing, healthcare, and transportation industries.
Given their ability to mimic human cognitive behavior, AI operate in a manner that is intentional, intelligent, and adaptive. Regarding intentionality, AI algorithms are developed to make decisions using real-time data and information (West and John). AI uses remote inputs, sensors, or digital data to combine information from various sources, analyze the data, and act appropriately on the results obtained. Given their processing speeds, analytical techniques, and adequate storage systems, AI is capable of carrying out comprehensive analysis and decision making. With regards to intelligence, AI analyses data and explores underlying trends (West and John). AI technologies only require robust data that can be used to create useful patterns (West and John). Such data can be in the form of visual information, unstructured data, and satellite imagery. According to West and John, AI systems can learn and adapt to decision making processes. For instance, semi-autonomous vehicles in the transportation sector possess tools that allow drivers as well as vehicles to detect congestion, road construction, and other traffic barriers (West and John).
The researcher chose this topic because it is a relevant topic in the world today. Moreover, the researcher is a tech enthusiast interested in exploring technology and its application in various industries. Researching about this topic will enable the researcher gain more insight about AI and how it will impact people’s lives in future. The researcher hopes to learn a lot from this culminating research. The researcher hopes to understand AI and its impacts to various industries across the world. The researcher also researcher hopes to develop skills such as oral communication, goal setting, research skills, and public speaking throughout the research process through the collection, analysis, and presentation of data.
Materials and Methods
The research study employs a systematic literature review as its methodology. The review method is based on the literature review guidelines provided by Booth, Papaloannou, and Sutton (2012), while the methodology is based on a systematic review consisting of three consecutive stages, namely literature search, reviewing the evidence base, and analyzing the findings.
The researcher selected publications for the review in two main stages. In the first stage, the researcher scanned the computer science databases. In stage 1.1, the researcher searched from five key words and phrases in the title, abstract, namely artificial intelligence, AI in marketing, AI in healthcare, AI in nursing, AI in transportation. In stage 1.2, the researcher concentrated on the journals that were most likely to discuss the impact of artificial intelligence on different aspects of human lives, that is, articles published in top marketing, transportation, health, nursing, and education journals: Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, Journal of Research in Marketing, Journal of Product Innovation Management, Journal of Business Research, Journal of Retailing, Journal of Medical Internet Research, Future Health Journal, British Medical Journal, Elsevier Journal, PubMed, Medicaid, Journal of Medical Artificial Intelligence, Interactive Journal of Medical Research, IET Journals, AI Time Journal, Open Edition Journals and International Journal of Educational Technology in Higher Education. In stage 1.3, the researcher conducted a comprehensive search of these five keywords and phrases in the title and abstract in the journals mentioned above. The search resulted in 22 articles in the journals that feature the keywords and phrases in the title or abstract.
