Introduction
Time is revolution and revolution itself is an evolution. Time is not consistent, it always keeps in motion. Even our life itself is in circle. Every single moment in life keeps changing. However, change is not an easy thing to do, but there are few times in life when an individual must change himself/herself or to environment in which he/she lives. To achieve desired goals, you cannot lay back. You must need to make some changes psychologically and physically. As a leader there is very much need of skills and will power to make changes and to adapt with change in an organization. There may be ample kind of barriers, which will be resistance to a change in organization. Only a skillful leader, who holds self-awareness, good interpersonal relationship with colleagues, has technical ability and organizational strategy, can transit through ease. Also, that leader would lead from front to take his colleagues into transition with ease.
Required skills for a leader
A leader is that person who leads a group of people in organization towards a common goal. He may be a supervisor or manager. So, it becomes necessity for him to have some qualities or skills. In my opinion, skills are something which make you able to perform tasks with efficiency and accuracy. As for me, a change leader should have firstly, self-awareness. If, I do not know myself, then how can I know others? Moreover, he should understand, why the change is happening or why it is needed. As per my perspective, a leader should have core values, emotions, self-confidence. To build relationship with employees, he must have good communication skills. Moreover, technical abilities, industry knowledge and decision-making ability as a leader in organization are quite valuable. Furthermore, He should have knowledge of current economic, social and political aspects related to his industry or organization. “Must have skills for leader to manage change” (H. James Dallas).
Importance of skills
According to me, personal skills help a person to achieve desired goals. Firstly, knowledge of self is an important skill for me, to understand other employees you should have self-awareness. Thus, I would be able to understand their emotions, feelings and capabilities. Secondly, adaptability is like a tool to me. If I can adapt in any situation then, it becomes easy to clear the obstacles. Subsequently, communication is key to success. If you can express your views, opinions and manage conflicts with employees, it decreases barriers. Intrapersonal relationship is like spinal cord in organization. A leader having good interpersonal with peers helps him to facilitating team performance and persuade other employees to adapt change. Moreover, empathy provides you the certain degree of trust and loyalty towards a leader by his employee. Cumulatively, knowledge of technical aspects such as, knowledge of industry, skills in specific tactics and practices help in smooth change in an organization. Finally, a future vision, inspirational leadership and strategic design is an indefinite part of skills of a leader. All these skills are significant for a leader to manage change in the organization.
Skills needed to be developed
As per my view, initially i lack in self-awareness. However, my self -onfidence as a leader is good but sometimes emotions become overwhelming for me. It decreases my tendency of decision making. I need to overcome this problem by being more self-aware. Empathy is another big issue for me. It is kind of double-sided sword for me as a leader or manager. Sometimes I could not understand others needs and concern. Quite a few times when I prejudge their concern. Subsequently, I lack behind the line when it comes to managing work. In my opinion it is one of the toughest things to manage your time, resources and work force to achieve a goal. I would like to conquer my managing problem by being more attentive on work and by employee feedback. Lastly, I think, I lack behind when it comes to dealing with complex situations. I need to absorb the pressure of work. Thus, I can be a good leader. Also, I can smoothly go through transit and lead my crew through a change in an organization.
Resistance and barriers
Obstacles and resistance can be decreased on initial step by proper implementation of change management in very first run. Firstly, it can be achieved by providing the full authority to senior members of group. Secondly, communication is the best part. How much a leader interacts or indulge in conversation with his team, results would likely to be good. Communication is a key. He would easily describe the situation and help his team to overcome of resistance. Lastly, a leader can provide psychological and social support along with the training in technical aspects.
