Can Money Buy Happiness: Sharing Persuasive Personal Viewpoint
Money is a defined as “any item or verifiable record that is generally accepted as payment for goods and services and repayment of debts, such as taxes, in a particular country or socio-economic context”. In what way does that relate to the emotional feeling of happiness? Can money buy happiness? This essay is my persuasive viewpoint on this topic where I share my attitude towards relationship between money and happiness.
After reading numerous article online the most popular argument that I see in many articles debating about this topic is that instead of happiness money can only buy pleasure. For instance, you buy a cake and you eat it by yourself then that would be pleasure but if you share it with others than that would be happiness. In other words, happiness is only real if it is shared. Well in this case, under these circumstances, money does buy happiness as defined by them because when people give donations to the underprivileged sectors of society so doesn’t that count as happiness as it is an act of sharing.
However let's look at the the ultimate benefit of money first of all. When you have money obviously you’ll be able to buy what you need. One more time, things like food, water and a place to live are all necessities in life and without money you wouldn't be able to have any of these which would obviously lead to a poor quality of life or even death. Obviously in this aspect money is a necessity, but simply because it is needed does not mean it will bring you happiness. When you have enough money you can buy what you want as well as what you need. However this does not mean you can buy emotional satisfaction and happiness.
Having money in life will not guarantee you a successful marriage or a marriage in the first place. It will not guarantee you a good relationship with your family or good grades or good friends. Most of the important things in life that support necessities cannot be bought buy money and these thing lead up to happiness. In fact people who have a lot of money tend to have bad relationships with people around them either because they are surrounded by opportunists or they themselves become arrogant which pushes the good people away from them.
Happiness is an emotion that is caused by what we’re doing, who we’re with or thinking of positive memories. None of this directly links to money. Money cannot buy positive memories or loved ones. It’s primary function is to intermediate the exchange of goods and services not happiness.
“Happiness comes from within and nothing external, as far as I am concerned we can’t really buy someone’s spirit.”-Robert Spatariou, Administration Manager, Financer. I agree with this quote because surely you can buy things that will bring you excitement they or may give you a feeling of accomplishment but happiness that comes from within cannot be bought or involved in a medium of exchange.
In conclusion, the task was to write an answer to the question 'Can money buy happiness?', in this essay, that is more than 200 words, I explain that money cannot buy happiness because happiness is an emotion not a product or service. The state of being happy is given by recalling memories, being in situations or by a person/people we’re with.
