Art & Artists' Career
Art appreciation
Why do artist's change their style as they move through their career? Image is a term with many meanings. Why is it possible to use it for many aspects of a work? Are you more familiar with non-representational or representational art work? Do you have a preference?
Style is the manner in which an artist displays their subject matter, vision or interpretation of a situation. Since style is determined by various features that describe artwork such as color, composition or color, an artist keeps changing all these features throughout their career life to keep up with trends. Although some artists such as Edgar Degas changed his style as a result of retinal disease, others change in order to improve appeal and spontaneity, reduce boredom anD increase their chances of making a quick sale (Dewey, 2005).
Throughout their career life, artists make many drawings and paintings that are often utilized for many purposes. This is because, an image contains many elements (color, line, balance, hue, symmetry among others) thus it can be utilized for many aspects of work. In my work as an artist, I am more familiar with representational artwork because it is derived from real object sources which act as a representation of a strong visual reference to the real world. I also prefer representation artwork more.
What is a benefit in a painting if the artist uses a developed sense of Chiaroscuro? Is the use of Chiaroscuro necessary? Do the images of Illuminated Manuscripts suffer a lack of beauty or clarity of meaning because they do not tend to use a chiaroscuro systems?
Chiaroscuro is the use of resilient contrasts between dark and light and it’s used to depict a sense of depth in a particular image or to create a shade for a three dimensional artwork (Bryant, L., Srnicek, N., & Harman, 2011). Although this technique has been applied to develop three dimensional images, there are various other techniques that can be applied to make a better painting. This means that its use is replaceable thus it is not entirely necessary. However, this technique is a good skill when applied on three dimensional images since it makes the artwork look more representative. Illuminated Manuscripts images do not suffer a lack of beauty or clarity for failing to use chiaroscuro technique because such images are two dimensional thus do not require the use of shade or light. Although artists are at liberty to use this technique on such artwork, there are more advanced techniques that are suitable for two dimensional images (Kandinsky, 2012).
What is the difference between realistic and naturalistic visual art? What is the difference between realistic and representational visual art? What is the difference between realism and idealism in visual art? Where do you see examples of idealistic visual art in daily life?
Naturalism is art that pays close attention to precise and accurate details of landscapes while portraying things as they appear from a scientific view of the world. Realism on the other hand is an art style that focuses on realistic representations of people, things and places and they see human experiences as the most important in their representation. Representational visual art describes paintings that are derived from real world sources thus they are easy to recognize such as animals, landscapes while realistic art is a representation of human experiences and people. However, representational art can be explained as a realistic art thus they mean the same thing (Huntsman, P., & Association of Art Historians (Great Britain), 2015).
In visual art, realism is the approach whereby its subjects are portrayed in a forthright manner while idealism is the approach of representing things through imagination to accomplish a mental standard of beauty and perfection. The use of make-up and filters to add beauty and perfection to a picture is an example of an idealistic visual art.
Why do artists use stories along with the purely visual information in their art work? Compare some of the different mediums artists use to make work. What artistic medium do you see the most often? Have you seen any artwork made with surprising materials?
Artists add stories along with visual information to their work in order to add more taste and appeal to their work. Through the stories, the artist paves a way for people to connect with the piece, understand the artist’s work and stay interested and attentive to the piece of work(Kandinsky, W., & Amazon.com (Firm), 2012). In the art industry, a medium can be anything that the artists finds appropriate to use depending on their creativity. However, different materials are used for three dimensional artwork to create architectural drawings or sculptures while two dimensional artwork is formed through painting, drawing or graphic arts. Many artworks are made by canvas with oil or acrylic mostly in the two-dimensional artwork. The most surprising material I have seen on an artwork is a collection of mashed papers and melted plastic.
