Youtube

“YouTube is a company started in 2005 by three IT entrepreneurs. In 2006, it is purchased by Google and has been running as a part of the company till date.” (My Portfolio, 2013a) Youtube is mainly used to share video content with other users. The majority of content is uploaded by users, major corporations are using the opportunity as well to make some part of their content public. It changed the way people communicate and collaborate by it’s ability to allow users to upload video contents that was previously unavailable before Youtube. A popular type of video representing that example would be video blogging. It’s basically same as blogging but using a video format. Many used this opportunity Youtube provided to become household names.

Youtube also proved to be a rather convenient platform for sharing worldwide news. It is often that an incident that occurred is recorded by an individual and shared on Youtube where people can watch it just a few minutes after it happened. This form of “news” is quite different─more “raw”/unedited and more direct─compared to traditional TV broadcasts of events. And what about watching a live stream as an event is in occurrence? – it produces an even stronger impact on this big social change: we can now “witness” an event. Maybe ellaborate this a bit?

Businesses also took interest in Youtube, assuming because of the provider’s popularity, mostly to promote a product or service. Before Youtube, advertisements on traditional media were quite expensive and lacked proper audience targeting, but this changed with Youtube. Ads became more affordable and worldwide. It became easier for businesses to reach out to target groups based on stereotypical thinking which content is most popular among each group. So they offered people ads for different types of products based on the content they watched. Now explain how precisely it changed: what’s with the targeting, what’s with AdSense etc. Also, why is this important for your topic? You need to give us a precise relevance what this affected socially speaking.

Education was also affected by the growth of Youtube, where as more people started using Youtube to both watch and upload videos, the educational content appeared more often. The content ranges from very basic “how to do” tutorials to videos that are much more complex, like detailed explanations of theories, studies, histories and alike. Practically the whole world now can watch such videos. Which people from various countries could view. Again, emphasize how is this new, how is this important, democratic in a way.. But what are the downsides? (incorrect information, invalid sources, misinterpretations etc.) is this a quite, then? What Youtube became was a platform well recognized by a lot of different people as an opportunity and a form of entertainment. (My Portfolio, 2013b)

Is this just an informal piece of text, like a reminder? You wrote it very casually... I will not correctnow this paragraph. You have just watched a video of the album and loved one of it’s its songs. Now in order to listen to that song, you need to buy the whole album on which the track is on. If the other songs didn’t appeal to you, you would still need to buy the whole album just to listen to that one song. Most people would not buy the album, that means the music industry would suffer from this choice.

There is more and more need for music, that prompted the existence of online libraries. A few websites were launched (such as: ...) where people could buy individual songs, or albums. These songs usually weren’t were not paid for and many could be downloaded without paying. But the quality wasn’t was not appealing. that’s That is where Youtube creators took interest in creating a website which would meet those those? which? demands, gaining instant popularity. Can you provide some sources where this is discussed? This is all too common, too broad. Feels like something we’d all assume anyway.

Then a question popped up whether Youtube took business away from the music industry. This is not a proper paragraph. Neither those individual sentences that follow: But it seems that quite a number of artists tasted success. They would be able to keep a count on their popularity as well as interact with their fans. How? How does that work on YouTube? Due to it’s its almost worl-wide accessibility and free access, Youtube made it possible that as long as you have an internet connection to you can access music as well as other types of content on demand. Taking in regard that videos being shared on Youtube are uploaded by users, Basically means that you can always go to another website, download a video and share it on Youtube. What does that mean precisely? That would be a large problem in online music, as a lot of content on Youtube is pirated.

Music companies found a solution to the problem, it which came in form of ads, before music companies’ revenue from online music came from selling copies. But why would people buy something they can get for free? I didn’t understand the rest until Youtube implemented ads, where music companies and artists can earn money if their video was/is being watched. So even though with minor setbacks, after Youtube had implemented ads on uploaded videos, it’s it is fair to say that it did more good then harm, at least regarding popularity of certain artists and labels. (Melodyful, n. d.)

You can argue about what is good and what is bad all day long, I will list some things that the community has judged to be either good or bad. No one knows everything in a world with so much information, it would be practically impossible, luckily for us lacking knowledge in certain fields, or simply not knowing to do something, there are Youtube tutorials on just about anything you can imagine. Another side of Youtube that is considered good would be Technology Reviews, basically just as the name describes pick just about anything that is “in” in the tech world and someone on Youtube has given his/her thoughts on how well it performs, how does it look and overall impression of everything inbetween.

About the bad side, the subject to argue would be amount of uncurated content, and the ability for everyone to post basically what they desire from private, violent videos, to just about anything strange and unsightly. (My Portfolio, 2013c)
