What I Have Been Taught From the Harry Potter Series
Harry Potter, the story of a boy who lived, is about an orphan who on his 11th birthday discovered that he has been gifted with magic. It was the British author Joanne Kathleen Rowling, popularly known as J.K who introduced us to the magic realm through Harry Potter. The story that comprised of 7 books takes us on the journey of a young wizard with the lightning bolt forehead scar. On his 11th birthday not only did he became aware of his gift but commenced to know the real reasons for the absence of his parents. His parents, Lily and James Potter had been murdered by the dark wizard Voldemort, who happened to lose his power while trying to kill Harry.
The novel opens with the Dursley family, of number four private drive, Vernon Dursey and Petunia Dursley an abusive relative, but the only living relatives of Harry Potter, who was also the one with the responsibilities of harry on the absence of his parents. He was left to live with them who kept him in a torment and bullied environment with a constant fear that people might find out about his power. He was one of a miserable and lonely boy that one can be. And it is a journey about a miserable and lonely boy that became the finest wizard of times who stood for what is right, who saved the magical world from Voldemort despite of his being far more powerful than Harry. The widely popular literature that introduced little children with the magical universe, forbidden forest, Quiddich and the names goes on not only mesmerized them with the fantasy world, but also taught them the very real word of this universe 'Heroism'.
It taught us bravery, friendship and for most of it standing for what you believe in, even if you are the only one who believes in it. It shows us that if there are people like Voldemort, Bellatrix Lestrange, Fenrir Greyback, Peter Pettigrew, Lucius Malfoy, Barty Crouch Jr., Dolores Umbridge, The Dursleys there will be always people like Harry, Hermoine, the Weasleys, Professor Dumbledore, Hagrid, Severus Snape, Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, Dobby the Free Elf, Professor McGonagall, Neville Longbottom and more out there to stand out for what is right. And perhaps that is the reason this book was destined to get published despite of being rejected by every other British Publishers except the then small and new publisher Bloomsbury. Once it got published the rest was a history.
Not only did this book managed to record a sale of over 400 million copies worldwide in sixty eight languages, but received several awards and appreciations as well, including the 1997 British book awards children's book of the year, the 1998 New York public library best book of the year, the 1998 parenting magazine book of the year and so on. From my personal experience I have to say that this book has been a magical experience for me.
Probably this is the only reason that somehow I managed to hold my urges to stop reading the last book of Harry Potter as I do not want the magic to end. It still is real close to my heart as it taught me to have faith despite the darkest times seeing that magic do happen if you keep faith in you. The words of Albus Dumbledore that 'It is not our abilities that show what we truly are; It is our choices' has been my paragon ever since then.
