What Bothers Me The Most In Our Government
We are being governed by actors, boxers, dancers and well-known personalities who happens to be just loud and full of promises. Popularity is undoubtedly a big hit. People need it in class to be recognized, in social media to be seen and understood and surprisingly, in the government to "win a chance". It's bothering me, it should bother everyone. Read the following statements carefully: Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao, a boxer, is now the Chair of the Senate Ethics Committee appointed by the current Senate President Tito Sotto, TV Host and Comedian. On the other hand, we have our Communications Secretary, Mocha Uson just disgusted the deaf community by communicating with her "sign language". Most importantly, the ambitious and cussing Davao mayor of the country, Rodrigo Roa Duterte is still our president. Surprising and funny as it sounds, this is outrageous and stupid. Outrageous because in technicality, the government is the institution that is expected to lead us to whatever decision and implementation should be done to the country. Ironically, these actors are bad in their reputation, moreso they are just mere followers to their directors. Then there's the boxer who only follows a coach who keeps saying "PUNCH, PUNCH, TAKE COVER AND PUNCH" and now, do we get what that means? Stupid because we are being led by a cusser who doesn't even care what other people think when he's supposed to care about them. And of course, we have the dancer who keeps on dancing on issues like Federalism adding green jokes to it that makes it obvious she doesn't know anything except making fun of everything.
Frankly, I am disturbed that I find everything that is currently happening our government as something I've witnessed already. It is like elections in an elementary class where you just got to choose who's confident, got the guts, a little bit smart as long as it's your friend and of course, popular. That's how President Duterte appointed some of his people. For example, "Utang na loob ko sa kanya ‘yon" Duterte says as he appoints Mocha Uson to where she is today believing that she's articulate enough to be so. He did not clarify to his standards except that he believes that she is worthy enough knowing stuff about social media and communicating what she thinks is right. I can't find the sense of debt because it's all nonsense if we consider how light and rash this kind of appointment is. Don't blame the president yet. Everyone's at fault here including us, specifically, the Filipino people who choose vote these actors, boxers or just icons. Admit it, out of 17 possible candidates for presidency, there's a chance you'd only know 7. These seven, regardless of issues or drama is still recognized so whatever may be, they can win.
Think, our President Duterte who was once a simple Davao mayor suddenly with urges from his supporters that his name was shown out there suddenly synonymous to hope, change and bravery. And snap, we're on board. Yes, we're that easy. If we consider all aspects and factors, it can also be said that despite of raging students and serious critics, as for the provinces they only believe to what is known but not what is right. They lack of sources and information which makes them hold on blindly to these popular icons. More importantly, it is the same for those who works as an OFW who settles for what they hear from the available media and their family.
It's sad how society's beliefs or norms cannot be defined apart from what kids believe. And so, I feel that there is a need for the understanding of the word "standard". Thinking further, that's what most people lack or put on less when it comes to choosing who deserves to sit on what or where. Way before, when the Philippine Republic was just starting, it had lawyers, doctors, fiscal staff to run for positions in the Congress and Senate. It is because previously, there's the societal standard that at least those who'll come to run for it is knowledgeable and is not only known but trusted. It's not fair to say that those who aren't professionals got no chance but to say the least, has a serious agenda which involves less income and more patriotism.
Let's find who's the best for the position like as for a senator that should know the details of the constitution and not just someone who writes their own lyrics (e.g. Freddie Aguilar) from the air or gives money for entertainment (e.g. Willie Revillame). It's the best standard we need. It can easily be said but the truth is there should be a case of need for each position like the President who will lead our country. We can’t keep putting our hopes up to those people who we simply look up for their fame.
The Filipino people cannot have the same mistakes over and over again. We need change towards real prosperity. Seriously, we need not only to send out the important information but to consider having all Filipinos have not only the heart but also the guts to stand up and be in that position once they know that they can do better than those who are in there currently. We have people who can do better, obviously, we need to let them be who they feel to be. The Philippines was never for those who was able to stand up, it is all for those who believe that he or she can.
