Unveiling Jesus as the Heroic Figure of True Faith and Love
A hero is someone who gives themselves, often putting their own life at great risk, for the greater good of others . A hero shows courage and is determined and dedicated to helping others in need by showing selflessness and sacrifice for the good of others. Many people look up to Jesus and choose to follow in his ways. He has shown himself as a hero through the way he has helped many people including the poor, sick, homeless and lonely. Jesus is a Hero and can be seen as a hero through his characteristics and actions as seen in the Bible.
The characteristics of a hero include bravery, courage, determination, dedication, endurance, perseverance, valour, selflessness, sacrifice, humility, integrity and patience. A hero shows bravery and courage as they are not afraid to take risks in order to help others. Jesus is one of the bravest men who ever lived. His greatest act of bravery and courage was when he carried the cross to his execution. Carrying his own cross, he went out to the place of the Skull. There they crucified him two others – one on each side and Jesus in the middle. His courage and endurance which was shown is often overlooked. People’s acts of bravery are usually very quick, it is all over in seconds or minutes. However what Jesus had to face up to and endure was slow and sustained. He knowingly gave in to beating and suffering. A hero will persevere through any challenges and make any sacrifice that is necessary. A hero has no fear of danger, they will go to all lengths and make any sacrifice to ensure that others are safe and well. One of Jesus’ greatest sacrifice is when he was crucified. ‘Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends’. Giving your life for someone is something that comes with great bravery. Jesus was confident in making any sacrifice that was necessary in order for him to help others and by doing this it makes him a selfless person.
A hero puts everyone before themselves to care about the wellbeing of others. Heroes are determined and dedicated to serving others in which another important characteristic of a hero is selflessness. Selflessness is the attitude of a true hero. A hero is more concerned about group successes than chasing their own goals. Such individuals become an inspiration for others, as they face challenges; they will embrace success and earn respect. An example of selflessness in the Bible is the parable of the Good Samaritan. The Good Samaritan is about a man going from Jerusalem to Jericho who is attacked by robbers who strip him and beat him. A priest and a Levite pass by without helping him. But a Samaritan stops and cares for him, taking him to an inn where the Samaritan pays for his care. The message behind this story embodies Jesus. This reinforces the selflessness shown by Jesus. Heroes have the determination to achieve the goal, regardless of the challenging obstacles. They display confidence under stress and are courageous enough to take risks. He would put the wellbeing of others before him. Jesus helped others in any way that he could. Examples of his care for others is helping the poor, healing the blind, helping the man walk again.
A hero is trusted by their followers because they never change from inner values, even when it might be difficult. Jesus shows this quality of staying true to his beliefs. Developing self-confidence is ingrained in heroic leaders as a key to success. A leader begins to develop confidence by achieving a small accomplishment. Jesus shows this characteristic through his actions towards others.
Jesus is someone who can be seen as a hero in many people’s eyes for the way he was not afraid to be different from others and stand up to help people who were in need. His acts of service ranged from simple acts, like washing His disciples’ feet to miraculously healing the sick and raising the dead. Jesus led his life with a constant willingness to help others and by doing this he can be seen as a hero. He showed his heroic qualities through his teachings to others. The parables are an example of how Jesus liked to teach others of moral lessons.
To end up, Jesus is a Hero. He can be seen as a hero through his characteristics and actions as seen in the Bible. The greatest example of Jesus’ heroism is that he laid down his life for others. He is a hero because he portrays the characteristics of a hero which include bravery, courage, determination, dedication, endurance, perseverance, valour, selflessness, sacrifice, humility, integrity and patience. These characteristics can all be seen from his crucifixion.
