Ultimate Values Of Human Life In The Movie The Ultimate Gift
Have you ever met a spoiled kid with no concept of work or any other type important ethics? In the movie The Ultimate Gift, this happens. The Ultimate Gift is a movie about a spoiled young adult, Jason, whose grandfather passed away. The man expects to receive a huge fortune from the dead relative. Instead, the grandfather outlined in his will ways for this man to receive his fortune through a series of tasks or /Gifts/. Five /Gifts/ performed in the film that was important to the movie and me were the gifts of Work, Money, Learning, Family, Gratitude. The theme of The Ultimate Gift is too discover yourself and be generous.
A very important characteristic of every successful person is work. Work is a trait that is needed to be successful. If someone doesn’t work, they won't be able to earn money leading to homelessness and then maybe death. Jason has no work ethic at all because he lives off of his grandfather's money. I love to work because it is satisfying to complete something that has taken much time. I also like to earn money as well so that I can support myself. While work is a very important trait, managing what comes after it is much harder.
To support oneself, one must be able to manage their money. The gift of money or money management is the ability to control where one's money goes. If one can’t control where their money goes, they could end up in major debt and could possibly lose their house or property. Jason has no concept of money management because he has a constant inflow of money from his grandfather. I have been taught as a little kid to be frugal with money and have a firm knowledge and control of my money so that I can retire and still be able to do fun stuff. Money management is a very important aspect of life but how does one get it?
In order to be a self-sufficient person, one must be able to. Learn. Learning is the ability to gain new knowledge, retain it, and appreciate it. If no one ever learned anything, how we have medical advancements or new business ideas. Jason went to college and all he did was party. He was sent to an impoverished country to work in a library. When I grow up, I want to be a lawyer and to achieve that I need to be able to learn because lawyers must have copious knowledge about law and arguments. Learning is a paramount skill that is not often applied to the family.
Family is the center of anyone's life and is the only reason that Humans are still around today. A family is a group of people dedicated to help and support you. If a person did not have a family, how would they get through life as a kid? Jason’s whole family is stuck-up and only cares about money. He wants them too actually be kind to each other. Without my family, I would probably not be clothed or fed. I would most likely be a homeless person on the streets. After receiving all of these gifts, what might a person feel?
After receiving a gift or someone does something for someone, two words usually follow. Gratitude is one of the few ways to make people feel good about doing something for someone. If a person didn't say “Thank you” after someone did something for them, how would the person feel about doing something for them again? Jason never said thank you because he was so used to receiving items from his family. Gratitude is the only way that people know that I appreciate the things that they do for me. Also, my parents have instilled the habit of saying thank you and being appreciative. Gratitude is one of the most important traits anyone can have.
Work, Money, Learning, Family, and Gratitude are five “Gifts” in The Ultimate Gift that were critical to the movie and are to me. In the movie, Jason (Main Character) learns and gains these traits through a series of tasks that his deceased grandfather had him do. All in all, these gifts and more are the core values that everyone should strive to have.
