Traditional Family Roles in the American Family
In today’s world family is considered the most important because we need a family to teach us how to navigate life as adults. American families as endure dramatic changes which are changing the society for better or worse. Families roles have changed in a major way. Marriage and family life regarding class, race, gender, and personal choices is changing. People in our society rather marry some in their statute, for example, some who is of upper-class statute will rather someone from another upper-class family, but time has changed since the divorce rate is so high in our nation. Today’s society has multiple trends positive and negative it depends on you as an induvial to decide and choose what makes you happy or what’s right or wrong in your eyes.
Family is considered most important because you need all the nurture and teaching to help you navigate life in the adulthood stage of your life. There’s no way a person can survive his/her role in society without family social development, as family is usually the most important source of socialization. During the childhood stage of our life, we depend solely on our family for survival. Our parent or people who play the role are responsible for helping us to learn the ways of caring for one’s self. Our family also help us learn about relationship, our peers, share resources and the environment. Our families are the first to provide us with and instilled values, norms, and beliefs, which is reflected in us as we get older, we will display our own social status, religion, ethnic group, etc. in our adulthood.
The American family is facing changes and the family in my eyes there’s no typical family structure. Families in American are more diverse than before. Families are facing several challenges in return these challenges will no longer an issue in the future. Families today are different in many ways from the past 50 years ago. Back then it was rare to see an interracial marriage, now interracial marriages are everywhere, they are a major increase in single families. A parent isn’t afraid to be single or single parent. Society has been seeing a major role change in families. Mothers were the primary caregiver of their families while the father supports and be the head breadwinner of the family. These changes are ringing loud all over. We are seeing they are now many stays at home fathers and more mother going out to work are both parents working. In some communities both parents are staying at home parent. The most recent changes society has been accepted is the transgender families, there’s no new norm in today’s American family.
With marriage and family people tends to stick to people who resonate with their class, race, gender, and personal endeavors. People like similarity without much exception. Whether we like it or not, are society acknowledge are not we are built to want other people who are on our level around us and in our circle. I see some biased in how people choose their partners if a woman is within wealth she is more likely to marry a partner in the same statue, how a man tends to be opposite sometimes a wealthy man will marry a poor woman if she has potential or if he’s distracted by her beauty even if his family disagrees with his action, but with the divorce rate in our nation more people or looking pass race, class, and gender.
The new trend wave towards today’s family diversity I feel is partly positive and negative for example I’m all in for interracial couples because love sees no color, we are all equal in the eyes of God. People should have the freedom to love whoever their heart skip a beat for, but a child/children having same-sex parenting is negative, even though I feel as humans we should have relations with whoever we please on the flip side I feel it brings confusion amongst children especially the younger ones who are not able to comprehend and even thought to push same-sex couple as parent’s society is a bit divided, some of us don’t care while people of some religious beliefs preach love but tells you the bible is against same-sex marriage and it’s an abomination. In today’s society was has become the new norm has been frowned upon in years gone and underground it’s still frowned up but more people of today’s culture are scared to speak up because the new norm as representation that will come at you and even with truth people label you as if you’re discriminating against other who’s lifestyle you don’t welcome in your home or circle.
The trends if changed back to traditional pre-World War 2 women played very important roles in helping the country. They gave their family to fight including their sons, fathers, brothers, husbands and themselves, however, I don’t see the new age women going back in time to pre-world war 2. Women want equal rights and even though in some cities women still fighting for equal pay amongst their male counterpart. Married women typically worked as homemaker, stay at home mom, in that Era women were mostly seen as wives and mothers. When work a woman would do jobs like teaching, helpers, administrator, textile and nurses these days women are choosing whatever career choice they want to embark on. In the world war 2 era women who was divorce, a widow and single young women was mainly allowed to work if you were marry changes are no one would hire you, today its much different a lot of women married are taking over the work force while their husbands stay at home with the children.
