This is what people mostly care when talking about social media, but there is more than that. We see children with tablets and phones shooting pictures and video for their pages and channels. But nowadays it is not just children, we can agree that adults and even senior citizens are well caught up with technology and social media. What is the reason of social media’s extension? To see all the positives and negatives of social media, its cause and effect, in this essay we will examine this topic, the easy access of media, its simplicity or practical use.

Social media was created in the first place as a way to stay connected and keep up with friends, taking away distance as a reason not to stay in touch with someone. Pages like Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, and Twitter are some of the most popular ones, but what we see today is the result of a long process and evolution based on the needs of their users. Social media allow users to post an online representation of their self as they wish others to see them, via a series of comments and photographs. They provide an opportunity for interaction and networking on a scale never seen before or thought possible. The rise in popularity of key sites like Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat have prompted the development of online communities with their own culture and methods of communication and discourse. Young people have largely driven the social networking revolution from its early days with increasing numbers using the platforms on a regular basis. Social media made it an addict for us which kept us in touch with new friends. People who basically checks social media daily and tries to stock people’s profiles by saving their pictures or even trying to get their private information. Young people are incapable of identifying such troubles. But the impact of the Internet or social media is an important issue that we are facing now. Kids could also miss use social media by posting their private locations, which could lead to a robbery and many other crimes.

Now let’s talk about social media’s easy access. Technology is the biggest reason why and how we have access to our favorite pages. Through smart phones, tablets and computers social media is only a few clicks and taps away. We can keep up with any of our favorite sports, teams, athletes, artists, and anything else that calls our attention at any time of the day and anywhere we are. Social media is not only for entertainment, it can also be used for more complexed tasks, for example a job search, we can apply to jobs that are even outside of our city and setup a web-interview by only making a few clicks. We can work on projects with other students or coworkers without having to even leave our room or change our pajamas. We live our lives with the need of constant connection while living busy and hectic lives, therefore social media becomes our best tool to keep that balance we look for. In addition to an easy access, what makes social media so popular with people of all ages is the simplicity or practical use. Children can easily master social media within hours, but adults don’t stay far behind. They can also enjoy it and master it at their own pace, thanks to its smart design and quick and simple to use tools. Every page is designed in a way that everybody can understand; with big words, color, shortcuts and simple icons making surfing through these pages very easy and enjoyable experience.

Social media has affected the way we communicate in a positive way. It has made it easier, quicker and happier as many would say. We connect with anybody in the world by opening one app on our phone and connect within seconds. We can send a direct message, call, send a picture or elaborated birthday messages, the possibilities are limitless. Social media allow us to stay close to our love ones that might not be physically close to us, we can express our thoughts, we can join groups of similar interest and make us feel that we are part of something. Social media allows us to explore and learn interesting facts about history or culture and grow in intelligence creating a feeling of positivizing and confidence within the individual.

Social media have also affected us in a negative way. For example, it has made people to spend more and more time by themselves and to lose the need of physical interaction. This kind of behavior goes against to what human beings are by nature, social creatures. Normally what we see from adults are well thought posts or things related to their family or important and special occasions in their lives, on the contrary teenagers take social media to a whole new level. Teenagers use social media as a way to satisfy almost the need to impress and show off to their friends. These cause and effect actions of social media can lead to addiction as well as bring severe consequences if posting gets out of control without them realizing that. We need to remember that everything on the internet stays there forever and will always be up for anybody to see.

Internet dating also has its own cause and effect in social media. Dating has improved well over the years and has made it far and beyond as such as Online helping various individuals globally. There are many apps and site that has said to help many people, Tinder being common as such. It begins by collecting similar interests of people and matching you with a set of another people within your range of area. You are then acquired to swipe left and right whether you are interested in the person or not. The rest is history that is made whether you are to talk or meet up beyond the dating app, helping you in your love aspirations. But you shouldn’t trust these apps as they could often stock and catfish you, pretending to be a different person, as a result of being at an emotional state of depression and changing the way you look at these apps and not trusting them anymore. To avoid falling for fake identities on those dating apps, you need to re-visit the profile more than ones so to make sure that it’s the right person you’re looking for including internet dating.

Positive and negative effects of social media affect almost everyone nowadays. On the bright side social media is a great tool to use to communicate with each another, taking advantage of its easy access and practicability we connect with people on a social or professional level, share our thoughts, feelings and interests with others. Unfortunately social media can also elevate antisocial behavior, it can expose you to dangerous situations that can come with pretty severe consequences. It’s important to inform ourselves and set limits if necessary, that way we can make our experience with social media more enjoyable.
