The Role Of Other Characters In Death Of Romeo And Juliet
Romeo and Juliet is such a tragic love story. It is sad that their lives ended, but that doesn’t mean their love for eachother did; their love may still live on with them in the after life. There are many characters who had a role in the death of Romeo and Juliet, but I believe Benvolio is the most to blame since he is the one that was able to persuade Romeo to crash the party where he had then met Juliet.
In Act l, Scene ll, Benvolio had noticed that Romeo had been super down since Rosaline didn’t love him back. He had heard of a party and was able to convince Romeo that they should crash it. Since he was able to convince Romeo to go, hopefully he could find a new girl. Romeo of course did find a girl, yet she was none other than the enemy's daughter Juliet; he fell in love with her immediately.
Benvolio said, “Go hither and unattainted eye compare her face with some that I shall show and i will thee think thy swan is a crow” (i,ii, line 87-89)
In Act lll, Scene l, Tybalt was at Romeo’s house insulting his family, Benvolio and mercutio were there defending the Montagues. Benvolio stood there doing nothing while Mercutio was killed. Then out of rage Romeo killed Tybalt, Benvolio put all the blame on Romeo so sadly romeo was banished. Lawrence said, “Romeo, the love I bear thee can afford no better term than this: thou art a villain” (lll, l, line 58-59).
Act lV, Scene 5, after the discovery of Juliet’s thought to be diseased body was found, they were all distressed. Friar then tried to soothe them by sending a note to Romeo explaining the plan so he could live a stress free and happy life with Juliet; yet Romeo never received the note. Romeo soon heard the news of Juliet's “passing” and went and bought poison so that they could be together forever. Romeo went to Juliet’s tomb and ended up fighting and killing Paris. His death was not too much later, this is when he then drank the poison. Juliet woke up to see that Romeo had killed himself, so she then stabbed herself with his dagger soon after she had seen that he was no longer alive. Lord Capulet said, “death is my son-in-law, death is my daughter he hath wedded, I will die and leave him all, life, living, all is death”.(lV, lV, line 38-40)
Though Benvolio started all of the actions that had led to their deaths many people took part in this tragedy,Tybalt, Capulet and Friar lawrence all took part in the death of Romeo and Juliet as well. However I do believe that Bonvolio had the biggest part of their death and deserves the most blame. If the fight never happened or if Benovolio would have stepped in romeo wouldn’t have killed Tybalt, Romeo wouldn’t have been banished. Following this, Juliet wouldn’t have been drugged to escape with Romeo which lead him to believe that she was dead. This would then cause him to fight and kill Paris, thus poisoning himself when he saw Juliet “lifeless” and his body being found by Juliet which lead to her stabbing herself with his dagger to die next to him.
