With the increasing rate of diseases related to food today, the importance to awake people awareness about healthy diet is crucial. It is necessary in one’s life to eat healthy meals daily. People always find excuses such as the lack of time, no talents or skills for cooking, buying groceries can be laborious, or food waste to not cook at home. According to some studies, “90% of Americans don't like to cook — and it's costing them thousands each year”. That is alarming. It was quite surprising for me to see the number of restaurants and pre-cooked food we can find in the USA. I start learning to cook when I was around 7 years old. In my country all the mothers teach their daughter how to cook at a very young age. At first, I couldn’t understand the relentlessness of my mother to teach me how to cook but now that I am grown, and that I love it I am so grateful to her.
Why should you cook at home? It’s healthier to make your own food. Most restaurants, fast-food and pre-packaged are all about profit and not your health. They use inexpensive products in the preparation of their meals. It is less nutritious, and they also use some additives to make the food taste good. In the long run those additives can cause you several health issues like diabetes and heart disease. In contrast when you cook by yourself you are involve in every step of the selection of your ingredients and you make sure that they are fresh and local. You are in control of everything you put in your dish and you decide of the portion. You save more money and time by cooking at home. Going out to eat in the restaurants and fast-food or buying pre-cooked food is more expensive than cooking from scratch. You can use the amount of money of three meals at the restaurant to prepare a week’s worth food. Buying the ingredients in bulk and using them anytime you want to cook is cheaper. If you don’t want your vegetables to perish you can just keep them in the freezer for weeks. Cooking at home saves more time than you can imagine. There are always leftovers when you cook your food, save them in the freezer and reheat or thawed them when desired. It is always fun and interesting to learn new things. If you don’t know how to cook at all, no worries, there is millions of recipes all over the internet. You just have to look for them. The more you practice the preparation of the meal you like the more you will master the art of cooking. It will also lead you to learn the name of many ingredients and maybe to create your recipes.
Cooking your food is very advantageous. It grants you good health, time and money saving and culinary skills. If you want to stay slim and fit like me, go get your hands dirty in the kitchen!
