The Influence of Mansa Musa's Leadership

The most important aspects of this topic would be the importance of Mansa rebuilding the Mali empire. After he helped rebuild the empire they were more powerful and had a more important standing within society. The emperor who came to make a difference within their society was Mansa Musa himself. Musa was a descendent of a hero of the medieval empire, who was an important figure within their community. It wasn’t until after the death of his ancestor, that he became to be a strong political leader that was able to inspire his community to prosper and thrive. Adu states that he was the reason that the empire was able to expand to their “maximum limits” which made him a well-known figure within their community. They were able to reach the height of their “power, glory and wealth” (Adu, 64). There are numerous ways in which Mansa was able to do so.

The first argument that is important with his influence within the society was how Mansa had an enormous impact within their political system. Even though his influence is notorious because he was ruthless leader their politics, he was able to maintain relationships with other states within the African community. Connections were preserved because was able to impact the north and eastern territories to follow the empire that was already prominent in the other regions. The most significant aspect was how he extended the boundary and expanded the government.

Not only was his political influence importance, but he was also extremely passionate about the religion and lifestyles of the Islamic people. This is important because he was able to use his wealth and strong passions to make a difference for those who were in need of guidance. Due to his passion of their religion and his interest in spreading the word of their beliefs, he wanted to be able to spread the word of their faith throughout several other communities. He decided that the most important community that could benefit from the Islamic beliefs was those who were in need and whom were impoverished. He utilized his wealth and connection and began to travel through the desert with a caravan of gold. With his charisma and generosity, he was able to impact many lives along his journey to other communities.

As a well-respected figure in the Mali empire, he was also able to influence trade and the production of salt and gold. He was able to influence commerce so successfully because of his new formed relations, which gave him the ability to increase commercial trade with the north and the south. Travelers within surrounding communities were able to trade in safety because of the empires military. Communities who traded with his empire felt so safe because Mali was considered “an extensive place with cultivated land fed by running water” (Adu,65)

What made Musa such an important influence was his ability to have an enormous influence on politics, trade and the spreading of the Islamic religion to neighboring communities. These factors and many more prove how Musa was an influential descendent of the medieval empire.
