The Benefits Of Online Classes Over Face-to-face Traditional Classes
Over the years, education has been changing since technology exists in our lives. The most notable factors that have led to the birth and subsequent development of open and distance learning and teaching have been the need to learn throughout life. However, we all ask is online learning as good as face-to-face learning? Can we learn without having communication with anyone? Online classes are not good learning as a face-to-face class because there is no instructor to guide in education.
Online classes are one of the most controversial educational issues in our life. Some 'experts' estimate that 'More than a million students in the United States are taking courses online' (Schulten). Online education arose from the need to provide education to students who cannot attend a classroom. This type of study is not only used as an auxiliary tool, but as active learning that helps people of any age and gender. The number of people that are taking online is bigger and 'experts' want to clarify that classes online are not good learning. Experts wonder why most people want to take more online classes than face to face classes. Do face to face classes give the same education as an online class? Why do all people think that taking classes online is more comfortable than taking a class face to face? This question is controversial because over the years more students decide to take more classes online than in a classroom.
One of the reasons why taking online classes does not help with good learning is that it is more common to cheat and search for answers on the internet. In a study of 639 students in the two types, most students said that it was easier to cheat in online classes than in face to face classes (Miller). Taking classes online to make learning easier is useless since people can have many good grades, but only for being a person who cheats, must show what you can do. Some time ago I had a class with a classmate who was taking an online class. All the jobs or most of them looked for them on the internet because my friend did not have time to do much homework and that was the way she thought it would be easier for her to do her homework. Everything was perfect she had good grades, but at the time of exams, my friend had terrible grades since she never does her homework or to the effort to analyze them. 'While 15.7% disagreed, 57.2% agreed that it is easier to cheat in online classes' (Miller). This means that 57.2% have cheated in their work which means that the highest number of people who take online classes do not learn on the contrary they learn to cheat.
On the same side, there are many more problems with online learning such as not being able to communicate with other people. Face-to-face learning helps to organize with your studies because all the students need to be in a place at a specific time and date. Also, be able to interact with the coach and other students while the online class is only sitting on a computer doing all the assignments and do not be able to have the opportunity to talk with other people. Taking classes face to face is merely better teaching at school if it helps to be able to observe the different opinions and points of view of each person that in the future, whether at work, this will help people to understand. Face-to-face learning is more recognized as a 'real' way to learn if you tell someone: I go to a class or training program about this or that, people understand that you are taking time to learn something, and you are serious about it.
It is essential to note that teachers are there to teach, guide and show how to do things in a better way. Nobody is born learning to do things. A book cannot explain as much as a teacher can. What happens when you are doing a task, and do not understand anything? You must send an e-mail to the teacher to wait for him to answer while you can take the class face to face and if you have any doubt, they will help you at that moment. Teachers want to know the work they are doing to educate people. “Students’ assessments of teaching have been a source of credibility regarding the advancement of teachers along with their continuing reflection and growth as educators.' (Paquette). It is essential that all students feel that teachers want everyone to learn and have a guide in the way of teaching.
The people that do not agree with my opinion in not taking online classes are all those people who only take the classes online because it is more comfortable. It is very common for people who choose to take online classes because it works with student schedules and is time-saving. Another advantage of taking online classes is that you can do the work in advance and this is an advantage because that way you can take more time to study for an exam. All the people who take online classes because it fits more to the time of each person that does not mean that the learning is better, but it is the only option left. I understand what to take a class means since in my case I had to take classes in that way since it is the only thing that fits my schedule and I know that the people who take classes like that are because they have a busy agenda.
One of the significant disadvantages of online learning is the number of hours must spend in front of the computer to learn. This exercise, if carried out continuously, can lead to visual or physical or muscular health problems. Therefore, a good idea would be that in all distance learning platforms the possibility of incorporating a manual of proper postures and connection times to alleviate these possible health problems was considered. I remember the last term I had to take an online class because it was the only class that helped with my schedule. Since I started school until I ended up sick because I spent much time online doing homework exams which I could not recover since I spent more than five hours a day doing homework. Now, what happens when if some student decides to take more than two classes online? Is more time that needs to spend on the computer, and it is a health problem.
It is important to note that online classes have many advantages such as being able to take our own time doing homework, but that does not mean that it is the correct way to learn. With face-to-face learning, one has a live interaction with a teacher or instructor while in the online class their only have electronic devices that serve you as a guide. One of the most common problems is that it makes people want to search for answers on the internet which means that is not a learning just doing the jobs to have a better grade. Face to face teaching is characterized as more experiential, clearer, as a constant dialogue in which the teacher and student enrich themselves, grow, learn, mature and benefit with a certain practical level, which promotes the construction of knowledge. The conception of online teaching is affected by negative aspects that do not help the good teaching of students as well as can cause health problems.
