Should refugees be accepted in new countries? In this essay, I will look at the mentioned topic from different points of view, as there are both positive and negative sides to this current issue.

A massive number of refugees drown in the middle of the sea while they flee from their homes every year. Refugees are people who are forced to leave their country in order to escape war, persecution, or natural disasters. The refugee crisis has been a crucial issue for years. There are 70.8 million refugees but less than 7% of them resettled to the new country. Most of the countries do not accept them due to reasons of loss of job opportunities or negative awareness as a terrorist. In fact, this is not true. A Refugee, as a productive member, can be beneficial for the future growth of nations. Therefore, countries should help refugees to resettle to the new environment in terms of providing job opportunities or improving negative awareness. It will eventually lead to countries’ further economic growth along with various productive members.

Typically, natives and foreigners like refugees have different skills and compete for different type of jobs. In other words, refugees are not taking jobs from people in the origin country. Native workers usually specialize in better-paid jobs that refugees cannot always compete in, such as jobs which require perfect domain of the local language. Refugees also can increase the efficiency of the work by engaging in technical jobs that are relatively shunned by natives. Refugees are often skilled, talented and resilient individuals contrary to what most people thought. Rather, refugees can fill skill shortages instead of taking away job opportunities. In the case of the UK, after they exit from the EU, they created skill shortages in many sectors of the economy. In fact, refugees were really helpful for their threatened economy to restore. According to the research done by the Nuffield Foundation, 45% of refugees already held a qualification before coming to the UK, and 65% were either employed, self-employed or studying. Many of them were already skilled professionals in their home countries. Also, refugees are helpful for the country which has a lot of aging population. For example, Germany, where a rapidly aging society is going on, is accepting refugees providing jobs actively. Since they lack young people, young refugees are welcoming as a potential employee. As many of working-age Germans are retiring, refugees are hired as a skilled worker such as car manufacturers. Since economic growth is strongly correlated with an available workforce, many experts expect that this will contribute to future economic growth.

In addition, the real-life risk is greater than the danger of terrorism caused by some refugees. Terrorism is, of course, dangerous and should not be happening, but the chance of dying from it is one in 20 million. This is a faint proportion compared to other risks such as car accidents or having serious diseases and probably won’t happen during people’s lifetime. One important thing is that we make at least one decisions that put us at risk every day. However, most people are taking the news of refugee terrorism more seriously than anything else, because it shows up all over the media once it is happened. In fact, people die every day more with the reasons of the car crash, obesity or cancer. If people are being more realistic, they should consider the danger of other life risks other than refugee terrorism. Also, they should stop thinking that all of the refugees are terrorists. Most refugees are pure and coming to the new country because they cannot live in their own country. Some of them came there to avoid terrorism in their country, so it is nonsense that they will be a terrorist.

Some people argue that it is risk-taking if the country accepts refugees. They insist that there could be economic loss of the country. Also, the Muslims could be a problem for the homogenous society. The general distorted thought on refugees is that they take the job opportunities from natives or they are dangerous existence. According to Gazeta Polska Codziennie newspaper in Poland, “refugees would completely change the culture and radically lower the level of safety in the country.” It is absolutely not right. Refugees are essential for the country where has serious aging population such as German. Also, they take jobs in the area in which natives avoid to work. It is helpful to economic growth along with increasing the number of workers. Over the past decade, immigrants have constituted 47% and 70% of the workforce increase in the US and Europe. According to the McKinsey Global Institute, the refugees’ population increase the GDP of European countries by more than USD 65 billion annually. Thus, countries should help refugees to resettle the new environment without those negative perceptions.

Now, it is time to deal with the refugee crisis wisely. This refugee essay in English discussed the challenges faced by refugees worldwide and the need for a more compassionate and effective response to this global crisis. As I mentioned above, refugees definitely can be productive members of society. There are various benefits from accepting refugees including economic and moral perspectives. Thus, it is not true that refugees are unilaterally helped from host countries and do not contribute to the country. The lives of refugees should not be abandoned again, as the bodies of a 3-year-old Syrian baby were found on a Turkish beach a few years ago. Rather than declaring refugees as terrorists, people should consider a little bit of moral imperative as well. Refugees are not threatening existence anymore, but they are just the same people as us who came to save their lives from danger. Therefore, instead of rejecting refugees, countries should accept refugees by promoting successful integration. Since half of the refugees are children, they should put effort to incorporate children into education systems. Such integration can decrease the risk of social conflict between people. Ultimately, it will reduce the risk of young refugees being a terrorist when they grow up. The whole world needs to be open-minded toward refugees from now on. Last but not least, people should remember that refugees are victims of violence who need help urgently.
