Reconciliation: We All Have Stories, Stories Build Understanding
The real life story of mine that is related to the quote is when I was in 12th standard I was brilliant in studies but when only two 2months were left in my final board exams I felt sick and was admitted to hospital for 1 month due to typhoid. I was very weak at that time and was not able to study for 1 month and in that one month I had forgotten whatever I had learned in the last months. Even my teachers advised me to drop study that year. However, I decided that I will study hard and will pass the exams. However, I faced many problems while preparing for the exams but I was determined to achieve my goal. At in the end I got 75% marks
The connection between my story and the quote is that I got inspired from my own story. Even at the time of hurdles I boosted my morale and did not gave up. I enjoyed working hard for myself to achieve the goal I wanted to achieve.
As an individual reconciliation means to restore the relationship. It means bringing back and restoring the friendly relations or to make one of the belief compatible with the other. Reconciliation plays crucial role as it will take a lot of time to know about our original ancestors as our elder generation or even our present generation has been imbibe wrong things about our culture, society, originality and it cannot be changed immediately. If I think it from the perspective of a college student it means to me a way to heal the relationship between two countries by understanding the difficulties and by finding the ways to find possible solutions.
There are also certain merits that can be derived from the quote given in the title. These merits are as follows
- We all try to be the one that other person want us to be. We just put on our fake mask and try to pretend according to the desires of others. However, if we try to own our own story than we will not have to pretend to be something that we are not.
- People do not show their own self due to insecurities that they feel about themselves.
- This will help me to be more open.
- I can share anything with anyone without any hesitation. It will help me to be more honest with myself and with others.
- Owning to my own feelings can help me to make peace with myself
. Does not matter how much we try but we can never be perfect. The feelings like being angry, tired, frustrated, intimidated, worried, sad, scared etc. there will always be a question for which we do not have any answer and we do not know what to do. For that, we just have to admit it. We just have to put a foot in front of the other and that is fine but we do not hide. Own it.
Where might we begin with reconciliation?
Firstly, we start from prior occupancy. This concept is unreasonable because they use some political weapon. It's part of the history of common law and civil law and international law – all invented by non-indigenous peoples. Of course, indigenous groups also implemented the concept long before any explorer got over to North America. Secondly, we learn about the different situation that happened with the indigenous applicants. It is not like a skin color or behavior and also financial condition, is about the strong relationship in between the families or relatives. We should also remember about the rules of law that reinforces by the indigenous. These parties committed actives, negotiation and litigation; it is not a anti sitter.
