Post-Secondary Education Should Be Free
A very contradicting topic like free post-secondary education has been talked about and has considered to be old news. But as for now North America has not seen any huge changes towards this idea. Before I talk about why I think post secondary should be free i think we should all understand the significance of post secondary education. Some of the main points people say is how post secondary transform student’s lives by helping them develop skills and abilities that employers want, it helps create new businesses and jobs, and most would say that having a degree can help students find higher paying jobs. A research has been done by Dr. Heather Allen that statisticalized families headed by those with bachelor’s degree will earn approximately $1. 6 million more in a lifetime than families headed by those who only have a high school diploma. All and all i believe that education is the key to success.
But many people around the world are unable to attend college or university due to the fact that they are unable to pay for tuition fees. Most that do go usually end up with a hefty amount of student debt. Some believe that only the rich and privileged should go but i believe otherwise, i believe that everyone should have the rights to education no matter what your social class is. Yes, people might say this could result in less efforts put into school. Yes, people might say this will result in higher taxes. Yes, people might say there will be even more competition in the forever growing business industry. Yes people might say there will be less job opportunities. But i think the upside of having free post secondary overrides the possible downside.
One important impact of free post-secondary has, is no more student loans and this can help students tremendously by taking an extra burden off their backs. Right now in America there is more than 1 trillion dollars in student loan debt in 2017, it is the second highest consumer debt wanna bet? Some believe that free post-secondary education is a great way to improve the economy. By letting people attend post-secondary for free can give the lower class a chance to move up in society, to open up new doors for everyone. Overall if the government do decide to make colleges and universities free i think that some of that goes will waste their time and the government’s money. But some would use their time there wisely and go on later in life to make some tremendous changes to society and that’s a risk I am willing to take!
