However, it was found that the general knowledge among the participants about cancer was not moderate and this concluded that the research has lacking of how research the participants behaviors, and lifestyle could help to understand the risk of cancer associated with their lifestyle. From the focus group discussion, it was found that the participant believe that cancer is not preventable and it is something related with the ‘back luck’ rather result of their lifestyle choice. This study helped the researchers to explain why poor people has high risk of cancer compared with the rich since they have very little knowledge about the risk of cancer associated with their lifestyle. The researchers feel that personalized education is more important among them to to educate them about the risk of cancer.

However, this research couldn’t answer why still healthy people still get cancer. On the other hand, the research found that most of the candidates believes that smoking is a mechanism for stress relief. Thought they already knew the risk associated with smoking, and public health campaigns have been effectively conducted among them. But, still the participants continued smoking knowing the risk of smoking. Study also found that the messages health-related message delivered via mass-media also might be dependent on the socioeconomic condition and education of the target population. This shows that the promotional messages need to be altered in order to reach population. This study has highlighted the need for more focused campaigns and clearer links between health behaviors such as obesity, physical inactivity, alcohol consumption, poor dietary choices and cancer risk. Targeting these behaviors has the potential to have a multi generational impact, as positive behaviors in parents will likely influence those of their children (Savage et al. , 2007), and behaviors that begin in childhood are often carried on to adulthood (Whitaker et al. , 1997). Addressing the consumption of takeaway and convenience foods consumed in this population is also imperative; interventions to promote cooking skills have proven beneficial at improving dietary habits and reducing the consumption of convenience foods in healthy adults of a low socioeconomic status (Reicks et al. , 2014).

While interventions such as these could be valuable in encouraging healthier individual or collective behaviors, the wider context of inequality and multiple deprivations in which our participants lived need to be borne in mind. We have demonstrated in this study the ways in which broad structures of inequality mediate everyday health-related decisions and while targeting these everyday decisions may go some way to addressing the issue, we contend that it is these broad structures of deprivation, which need to be tackled. The focus group and photo-elicitation aided approach which invited participants to capture ‘a week in your life’ was an informal and useful tool encouraging engagement between the group and with the researchers; this facilitated in-depth discussions and detailed accounts of lifestyle behavior choices and factors which encourage or inhibit positive health behaviors. Participants led the conversations based on the photographs they provided; this encouraged detailed discussion of information relating to personal behaviors.
