My Favorite Wonders of the World
If you search on internet or in any other place like books or magazines you can find different lists of the Wonders of the World that starts from antiquity until today, to categorize the world's most tramendous natural wonders and manmade structures. This essay will describe my favorites wonders of the modern world nowadays not only by the way they look but also their importance and values in human evolution and civilization of world.
Someone once said: “Stuff your eyes with wonder, live as if you'd drop dead in ten seconds. See the world. It's more fantastic than any dream made or paid for in factories.”-anonymous And I would like to remain and analyze the meaning of what he said placed in today’s world. As the cities are being overpopulated by factories and skyscrapers, we have lost the meaning of what we call wonders and the relation that stays alive between a place and the history. An object place or building can have a great impact on people’s live, and what makes it wonderful is the story that lies behind.
In 2001, 200 monuments were selected by some Swiss foundation to choose among them 7 wonders of the modern. The list updated contains those seven monuments: The Great Wall of China, Petra in Jordan, the Colosseum in Rome, Chichen Itza in Mexico, Taj mahal in India, Machu Picchu Peru and Chris the Redeemer in Brazil. I have chosen to share in this essay only three of them as they awake inside of me the magic that only a wonder can bring.
Firstly, I would like to start with the famous Great Wall of China, a national icon of Chinese country. It is ranked as the longest wall in the world, and as it can be imagined his history is very long too. This wall started to create over 2300 years ago to protect territorial boundaries from enemies, by a lot of groups dynasties who has participated on different parts of the wall. During the construction died up to 400000 people and some of them were buried on the wall. This monument is chosen by me as it represents the pride of china country, their resistance, creativity and determinance. This is the longest project alive that has taken in itself more blood, sweat, tears and legends and also preserves in itself a fantastic architecture.
The second monument on my top 3 is the colosseum of Rome. Certainly, all of you have seen the famous movie of gladiator. so, you have seen the famous colosseum too. The largest amphitheater in the world has seen more than what a movie can offer: true fights among gladiators, wild animals, emperors and a huge number of spectators who came to enjoy the part. It took 10 years to build this monument between 72 and 81 A.D started by emperor Vespas. Colosseum is one of the most remarkable architecture building worldwide. It consists on a mix of style, romans on pair with Greeks. Even though a great amount of it is destroyed over years it remains one of the most wonderful attractions for tourists.
Least but not less, Taj Mahal in India. As I was coming across some new commercials I saw the newest one from Dior that ended with some phrase that reminded me of Taj mahal. and you what can you do for love? shah jahan certainly had a lot to do for love. He did something that the world would recognize among years as the greatest symbol of love, built taj mahal in honour of its wife. The history is fantastic, but what came after was exceptionally wonderful. Taj mahal is a great architectural building that has a perfect harmony and symmetry, a real masterpiece in balance, conception colors and everything else. It is made from white marble that changes its color from the light of sun or moon. It is said that after Taj mahal was finished shah jahan cut off the the hands of architect and workers to ensure that they never will built another one of its kind. As it can be expected nowadays is a famous attraction for tourists worldwide.
Coming to conclusion, for me its very important that eventhough we may not be possible to visit those wonders we should know and recognize their importance and values as all of them bring a lot of history and facts. They are the most wonderful structures made by humans in a amaizing harmony with their elements. I have found in my three fav wonders the fantastic dreams coming up alive in reality.
