Movie Review Of “Pay It Forward”
In this world full of conflicts, lending a han d is perhaps the most essential thing we can offer. At times, when we help someone, we ask for a return. However, paying the favor back is not just through material things but it can also be paid through helping out individuals.
“Pay it Forward” is a primary example of what motions are supposed to do: make us laugh, cry, and can somehow affects us with its moral and emotional appeal. The movie is about a young student who made a difference because of his strong belief to start a change. Through the task given by his Social Studies teacher which is to think of an idea to change the world, his action resulted to a positive chain reaction. Pay it Forward, a 2000 Drama and Romance film, that was directed by Mimi Leder, is an inspirational and eye-opener film that basically have shown us how a certain individual can impact someone’s life. The three main casts where Haley Joel Osment who portrayed as Trevor, Kevin Spacey who acted the role of Mr. Simonet as the Social Studies teacher, and Helem Hunt who played the role of Arlene as Trevor’s mother. Over all, this movie was genuinely good and a fairly well done story. The movie implies that each of us are created to perform good deeds without expecting precious rewards and to make an endless ripple. We must keep in mind that altruism and selflessness can be the things to create a bountiful difference. The movie conveyed different emotions that the audience can actually relate. The casts had an impeccable portrayals. Trevor, the main character, really showed a superb acting roles. He may not have expressed evident emotions but his eyes speaks so much. Furthermore, it is very noticeable that Mr. Simonet and Arlene Mckinney are both distressed not just physically but also emotionally. These two individuals presented their roles appropriately, you can feel that Mr. Simonet had a bad experience of his childhood while Arlene really acted as an alcoholic girl who loves her son so much. One scene that I was shaken was the part where Arlene unintentionally slapped Trevor. With that scene, people can link their experiences because they also have conflicts with their parents. All in all, the characters truly exhibited a strong performance that touched the hearts of the audience.
Another thing that I have observed was the burnt effect in the face of Mr. Simonet. It is very commendable because of the evident scars in his face that it flaunted to be real. In the beginning of the movie, it was a little bit confusing if you will not focus in watching but the plot kept me questioning that is it really the time to start doing remarkable deeds? The plot of this movie imparted a great moral that makes the people think about everything. Also, its plot twist was saddening because of what happened in the end. With regards to the cinematography of the movie, as a student living in the 21st century, it did not meet the standards of what a motion picture should have. Obviously, it is because it was made 18 years ago compared to the quality that we have today. Nonetheless, it may not have the featured characteristic of what we have nowadays yet it displayed the way how the camera tells the story, captures the themes per scenes that contributed to the film’s distinctive mood and indentity.
Undeniably, Pay it forward teaches us that a simple act of kindness creates an endless ripple. It will motivate you to do something different that can contribute in changing the world for the better. For some people, the ability to help a person you really don’t know is very unrealistic especially today. You cannot just offer an aid immediately for there are many beings who might trick and betray you after what you have done for them. In our time today, there are a lot of people who are in need of help. The only problem is the trust that you will inflict. At some point, some negative feature of this movie were spotted: profanity, certain number of displeasing and confusing scenes. Also, I was not satisfied with its ending. Since this movie is very encouraging, it must be allowed for general patronage so that everybody including teenagers, kinds and all young individuals can truly and easily watch it because it contains a lot of morals. On the other hand, all movies have certain flaws, in spite of these, Pay it forward is indeed an exceptional movie.
If I were to change the denouement, I would like Trevor to continue his movement and spread it more to the whole world. Still, this motion picture enlightens us that we can only attain change if we start it within ourselves and constantly pass it to other people. If I were to incorporate one bedan value, I will include the “community” for this movie is not just thinking the welfare of one individual but the community. Truly, there is “No man in an island”, you don’t’ just exist in this world for your own good but also for the prosperity of others. On the whole, it points out that these simple deeds are acts of moral beauty. Let us keep in mind that we don’t pay it back but instead we must pay it forward.
