The Nineteenth Amendment is one of the most important Amendments many have fought, protested had riots had many controversial opinions about but it's basically giving all American citizens the right to vote without gender discrimination. You may ask why does gender matter when voting? Well a while back in history near the 1800-1900 it played a very big role women were not allowed to have a vote or get a say in what they thinks should or shouldn't take place in their own country. Although we were lucky enough to achieve this milestone it wasn't always so easy Thanks to women like Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton we were able to achieve and get through it because of their dedication. In the early 1800s women would set up organized petitions in order to help move forward with the amendment,” The first gathering devoted to women’s rights in the united states was held in 1920, 1848 Seneca Falls, New York”(History.house.gov, Women’s rights movement,1848-1920).

There was a very bright out come on August 26 1920 for us women we were given the right to vote for the very first time. While we American Women were able to celebrate and feel proud of what we had accomplished it was not like that all all of the women unfortunately “For African American women the road was steeper still, even with the passage of civil rights and voting rights acts,”. Women all over the world fought to protect each other and to gain the simple humane rights that we deserved. Women and men differed from one another “In the nineteenth century men were expected to live public lives like working in factories, socializing while women weren't supposed to socialize but do other things related to cleaning and family, laundry and food was their responsibility with no help given to them”(Christopher Sailas, Feminism in the 19th century: women’s rights, and limits, https//study.com/academy/). Women had to Live up to the expectations that men’s gave them in order to be so called good wives. often times women were belittled when it came to mean Women were given made out to look “weak, passive, Domestic, Illogical, Emotionally, Dependent. And pure,”( Kimberly M, Women in literature, Www2.ivcc.edu.) While men were made out to be more superior that was the mind set back then unfortunately women were made to look like they were incapable of doing simple tasks that men were able to do in their day to day lives.”The women's suffrage movement involved traveling to give lectures, writing the government, lobbying the government, and holding civil disobedience events such as hunger strikes, vigils, parades to bring attentiontothecause”.

Women all over the world devoted half their lives to make these change of events happen and lucky for us it was possible because of these women. Women who apart of this amazing change were treated inhumanely for example they would be “jailed and abused for their participation. I don’t know about you but to me that abusing one of the may rights we have and that is having freedom of speech. Married women “couldn’t own property and had no legal claim to any money they might earn. These are just the few of many many unfair treatments that women had to deal with. Imagine working hard and earning some money and having that taken away from you and you couldn't do anything about it or have any say all because you a female and you a “lesser equal gender” than the males. I don't know about you but i would definitely not want to live in a world like that where we as women get treated like lesser just because of our gender.
