The topic for this week is really very critical and important to focus on why there is a gap in longevity among women and men. while reviewing articles , text and watching video , many memories recovered from my mind which open my eye and discover how such behavior might affect our lives in terms of physical and psychological points yet refreshing my mind on how I may help other to change some norms which are harmful in the root.
Through reading the text I found many points play significant role that drive our health , illness , and gender, for instance women tend to feel tiredness and back pain (Ogden ,2017) as physical symptom earlier than men due to huge responsibility bearing on women side like pregnancy, take care of children and house , added to other tasks when women are working.
Another point is biological factor as women and men chromosomes are different , responses to illness varied, in addition to hormones control femininity and masculinity like estrogen and testosterone , where estrogen reduce possibility of heart attack until menopause or period stops (Garbutt, (n.d)) , also testosterone increase rate of risk which has implication on men health and longevity.
Moreover a reason that influence longevity is heath behavior (Ogden,2017) where men get used to consume food that make them happy and excited without considering ingredients of food whether are healthy or not , when some symptoms become uncomfortable , some men ignore them until real to serious problems which could be avoided earlier. Where as women concern their health excessively due the importance of image of body shape , and controlling calories, yet women right now turn to consider organic and healthy food. In addition women following heath news more than men , looking for medication since the mother is the master of her house in term of take care of family health.
Further difference is risk taking behavior(Ogden, 2017) as men show their strong traits by performing risk task like construction fields and mining field , which is very possibly affect their quality of life and maintain permanent impacts of injuries , while females don’t have the desire to make danger work to show dominance which also mostly unwelcome.
Moreover, social norms (Ogden,2017) control to highly extreme people behaviors as men and women act differently to accompany society norms , since babies are born parents and the first priority for mother is preparing clothes and decoration for baby room and differed according to baby sex so if the baby is girl , pink color is found in every item , and when baby is boy the blue is dominance. This difference continues for advanced stages of life. Also men are discouraged to show their emotional responses such as crying when loses some one close to them in front of others that unconsciously point to weakness in some eyes, but I believe as human every one has to release stress in anyway regardless gender type.
Mainly considering health issues depending on how families opinions about take care of health , education level and background , yet family history of illness and health which has strong effects on how families seek medical help and prevent from potential disease might occurred.
In conclusion, there are many differences on longevity between men and women such as physical symptoms, risk taking, biological factors and social norms. Individually , I found stress and depression damage both men and women in different ways as men avoid talking about their illness to keep their image and women when wait their children to be adult to take care of herself and ignore their health which make diseases more harmful and typically gathered with unsafe conditions.
