Ever since Guglielmo Marconi developed the first wireless telegraph system in 1896 (CIA), wireless tech has been used in so many things. Wireless technology works by using RF signals (MBN). Wireless radiation that comes from wireless technology has effects on plants and theories of how it can affect humans.

Wireless technology is everywhere, including phones, Airpods, cars, laptops, or about anything that can connect to wifi. There are two main wireless technology, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Bluetooth uses radio waves instead of wires or cables to send information in a short length, usually 10 feet (Ferrara). Bluetooth devices are on the small section of the radio spectrum. The ISM bands (industrial, scientific and medical) is usually around the frequency range 2400-2483.5MHz and it is already used by a lot of everyday things like microwaves, ovens radios, and WiFi networks. Not to interfere with other devices that work with ISM band have to be low power. With this, there are three classes of Bluetooth devices. Class 1 transmits using 100mW of power and has a range of 100m. Class 2 devices transmit at 2.5 mW.

The low power and limited range of class 2 are so it allows Bluetooth device work without it interfering with one another. A lot of the Bluetooth devices are Class3, which use just use 1mW to save power, and the only downfall is the range is only about 10 feet which is good but not the best.. Another way that Bluetooth devices dodge other ISM devices, Bluetooth uses a sophisticated frequency hopping technique. What this does is the ISM band is split into 79 channels each about 1MHz wide. The transmitter in a Bluetooth device changes its channel 1600 times a second in a random way. This is called Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrums (FHSS) and it was invented by the military so it's harder to get interference or jamming. Bluetooth is very useful. (Fairhead)

With wifi is a wireless networking protocol that allows devices to communicate without a direct cable connection. It's an industry term that represents a local area network protocol based on the 802.11 IEEE network standard and 802.11 is technology standards for wireless network devices. These standards are determined and made by the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), and it tells how different wifi devices should communicate with each other. There are also 802.11n speeds which is what Apple uses in their laptops and phones. The letter after “802.11” just means that it is an amendment to the original. The difference with a, b, g, and n networks just means it is improved.

By improving there is better data rate (how fast information can travel using the wireless network), and also range on how well it can maintain the connection. The latest one is 802.11n and so it is the fastest and best but not everyone uses it. In a home or business, the main device that can transmit the wireless signal is a router, computer, phone, and even Ipad. The Internet usually comes from the outside like an Isp (internet service provider), it works just by sending information back and forth. With Wifi information can be sent and received so fast. (Pinola)

With scientists finding out new things every day like our new technology like improved wifi or stronger Bluetooth there is some evidence on the effect on plants. In Hjallerup Skole, Denmark 5 girls have done a project on this. They had 6 trays of seeds of ordinary garden cress herb were placed in a room with a WiFi router and 6 more trays in a room without a router. After 12 days of this experiment, the seeds near the Wifi router turned brown and died while the one outside the room stayed alive and healthy (Bean). Wifi does give off electromagnetic radiation which can pass through walls (Safespace). With a massive amount of evidence of damage to DNA of a wide variety of plants. This is caused by the telecommunication industry’s plans for 4G or 5G that no plants or animals can avoid, and with that, they are exposed to it 24 hours a day. With this a lot of plants died. With humans it will be a different case.

Scientists have tried but have not found out a lot but there are some theories of what could happen from wifi Radiation. When using a phone connected to Wifi of some sort it is giving off radiation, or wireless headphones it is connected by Bluetooth... During the 1900s-2016 the use of mobile phones has skyrocketed. What happens right after that is an immediate rise of brain tumors and other types of cancer. This doesn’t have much evidence to back this up, but experts say there are long term effects. After large studies, it is shown there is no link to cancer, but even with this, there are not any real good reason. “Edwards stated: ‘It’s interesting to note that in the last 20 years we have lost 80% of our insects. And if we get 5G, we’re going to lose 100% of our insects. When the insects go, we go too.’” (Henkens) With wireless technology, it could lead to long term effects and the extinction of the human race.

Being able to send information with devices without wires or cables are amazing (Pinola).
