Compare and contrast Han empire and roman empire
The Han empire was founded in the year 206bce. The location of the empire is in the Asia region of the world. The ruler of the Han empire was emperor wu. Emperor wu ruled from the years 141bce till 87 BCE which is the longest ruler who presided in China's history. Emperor Wu was known As the Martial Emperor for his Nemours military campaigns. In the years of the Han empire under Emperor Wu, he adopted Confucianism as the state ideology. In this dynasty, they have learned a lesson from the previous dynasty that failed which was the Qin dynasty. The Han dynasty and Qin dynasty both had created the political, social, economic, and cultural foundations that would characterize imperial china thereafter.
The Han dynasty was china's formative empire with armies swelling to be fifty thousand crossbowmen. The Han dynasty followed the same practices that the previous qin dynasty had. In the Han dynasty, their mass production of weapons was made from bronze and iron. The Han dynasty army had taken over land in all directions with their soldiers armed with the crossbow and mounted archers.
In the Han dynasty even with their powerful army conquering the land they still relied on civilians to work special labor jobs such as building canals, roads, and defensive walls. Emperor Wu of the Han dynasty was known to have the principle of 'letting things be,' with this he rarely inspected his military units In the year's emperor Wu was Ruler he created a court system that prosecuted over a thousand such cases. Both the Han Dynasty and the Roman Empire relied on political institutions, ideological supports, and control of economic assets to maintain power. But they both had their differences with civil bureaucracy, the military, and ideological preferences.
In the Han dynasty, their centralized bureaucracy had no fewer than twenty-three thousand and five hundred staff in central and local governments. The Han dynasty also had a tight administration that took down powerful princes, crushed rebellions, and took over the areas controlled by regional lords.
The Roman Empire was from the year 300BCE- 300CE. In the height of the Roman empire, their land would expand into the highlands of today's Scotland, down to the Nile River which is in today's modern-day Egypt. The roman Empire dominated lands around the Mediterranean sea, As opposed to the Han Empire which dominated unbroken landmass. In the Roman empire, they acquired command over the world from their large violent military expansion which had an upbringing of many wars against the neighboring empires.
The roman empire was one of the Latin-speaking communities in Latium. Rome was a city-state that became allies with others for self-defensive, but by the year two hundred sixty-five BCE they created a mass military and territorial expansion. In the year 265BCE with the massive military expansion, it had taken control of the majority of the Peninsula. The roman empire migrated from northern Europe to central Europe between the years 450-250 BCE. During the migrations, it included dozens of gallic people from the region of the alps. During the journey into northern Italy, around 390 led to the seizure of Rome.
In the same year of the massive movement and military expansion, it also caused conflicts. Rome had entered the three great Punic wars with the Carthaginians. The first Punic war was from 264-241 BCE. In this time the roman's major power wherein president-day Tunisia. The first war was a naval battle between the two over the island of Sicily. After the war, The roman empire took the victory and moved into the western Mediterranean to acquire a dominant position.
The second Punic war between Rome and Carthaginians is from the years 218-201bce. During the second war, the Carthaginian General Hannibal realized the only way to seize victory over Rome was to attack the Italian Peninsula itself, However, the Romans revealed their strengths and arms. The Romans had created a new military system which made the victory almost certain. Rome at this time period was considered a modern nation-state that got manpower from a huge population.
The final war between the Romans and the Carthaginians was in the years 149-146 BCE. The Romans once again defeated the Carthaginians with their overwhelming advantage in manpower ships and other resources which brought the long five-century war to the end. The Romans did not believe in accepting victory from the beginning of the war. In the Roman empire, they were educated to imitate the examples of soldiers such as Marcus Sergius, who was wounded twenty-three times in a battle.
Between both the Roman Empire and the Han dynasty they both had their strengths and weaknesses compared to each other. In the Han dynasty, they made drastic changes in government and politics from the Qin Dynasty who fell before the birth of the Han dynasty. This dynasty was mainly government oriented to prevent a collapse again. They carried military and Generals but the ideology from the Han Dynasty emperor Wu was to 'let things be.' The Roman Empire, on the other hand, had a massive military defense and expanded their empire to quite far lands within the time facing the Punic wars and defeating the Carthusians. Three Times. They both had opposite strengths one with government and order of the people with politics and the other with military defenses. In my opinion, both empires would've had great tactics if we're around the same time period in history.
