Applications And Challenges Of The Internet Of Things
Table of contents
The Internet of Things (IoT) closely related to anything and everything. It is the network of physical objects — devices, vehicles, buildings, and other items — embedded with electronics, software, sensors, and network connectivity that enables these objects to collect and exchange data. Smartphone are almost everywhere even in places where the basic infrastructure needs such as water and electricity distribution systems have not been developed. IOT dramatic effect on domestic sphere, such as assisted living, smart homes, smart cars, etc. In business sector, IoT has noticeable advancement in manufacturing and service industry such as better services, more production and superior quality.
Why internet of things?
- Dynamic control of industry and daily life
- Improve the resource utilization ratio
- Better relationship between human and nature
- Forming an intellectual entity by integrating human society and physical systems.
IoT Applications
Shopping
Chip less RFID will allow to design a smart shopping cart. It generates the list of required items and locates items in different aisles. It helps us to finds deals and discounts and pays automatically without scanning by a cashier.
Smart Home
IoT helps us for remote monitoring and remote control. Security and Power consumption are also advantaging of IoT in smart home monitoring.
Transportation
A network of sensors set up throughout a vehicle can interact with its surroundings enabling adaptive drive systems to respond accordingly. This may involve automatic activation of braking systems or speed control via fuel management systems. Sensors for fatigue and mood monitoring based on driving conditions, driver behavior and facial indicators can interact to ensure safe driving.
IoT in Daily Life
A connected thing can act as a lifesaver. A smart bed can detect a heart attack and send the information to the nearest hospital.
Medical Application
IoT can be used in medical field. It can be used for Measurement of body parameters and temperature. Movement of the body and heartbeat can be measured.
IoT Privacy & Security Challenges
Privacy and security are among the main concerns. IoT sensors present potential attackers with a direct access to personal information. Technological standardization in most areas are remains fragmented. Managing and fostering rapid innovation is a challenge for governments.
The hackers can use this kind of information in many illegal ways. I personally think that government should spend more money on internet security departments because one of the major problems of today’s lie is cybercrime. Secondly, all the things about the internet should not be taught to all students and in all institutes. It should only be taught to them, who are going to work for government security agencies.
