Imagine a payphone on a street with a blue outline, a tiny screen, and directions on using it on the right side. Upon viewing the payphone everything seems to be in its place except the keypad. When picturing the keypad do not visualize regular numbers, instead picture dirty dingy fingers. Envision four rows and four columns of fingers that have dirt on them, dirt under their nails, and some wrapped in dirty band-aids. Picture how alarming that must be if everyone touched each of those disgusting fingers to dial a number. This advertisement 'What You Really Touch” by Sanzer is effective because it spreads the awareness of what people are actually touching and how Sanzer hand gel can help them.

The art in the advertisement “What You Really Touch” by Sanzer is effective in conveying the message of the ad by the lack of unity, low contrast, view point, and diversity. The lack of unity are the fingers. A payphone should have numbers on its keypad not fingers. Projecting as the keypad, they are detailed enough for the viewer to distinguish a horrid array of uncleanliness. The low contrast in the ad are represented as dingy and grey. This gives people the feeling of concern, disgust, and a sense of staying away from it. People are more likely to stay away from things that are dirty. Everyday people are unaware of what filth that they touch. This ad shows dirty finger of all ethnicities, not just pointing out one specific ethnicity group. A payphone is represented to be used by the public, available to all, touched by all and used by possibly the homeless. This appeals to show the public on how dirty common surfaces really are. Looking at a payphone nobody pays attention to the dirt on the keypad. Each finger is extended theoretically to the next person approaching to use the keypad. The fingers are positioned as if it is pointing to the next user waiting for their fingers to touch its dirty fingers, creating an unwanted feeling. When looking at this payphone it shows the smudges of his or her sweat and dirt from their hands from what they last touched. The position of the camera gives the audience a close up on the keypad, an unusual viewpoint since, when using a payphone, most adults view the keypad from above. In addition to bringing the audience closer to the general subject, the close-up demonstrates the dirt on each finger, uncomfortably putting the danger close to the viewer. Although, art is significant in an advertisement, text portrays importance as well.

When viewing the ad on the right bottom side of the photo you see the words “What You Really Touch” with the words “Sanzer Hand Gel” in a medium light blue color with a white oval base background on the word Sanzer. When reading the words, it makes the audience contemplate about what there actually touching. Now decoding the text, each word has a unique meaning behind it. The first word is “What”. Looking at the word, he or she automatically thinks about the fingers on the payphone, because that’s “What” he or she is actually touching dirt from other people’s dirty fingers. The audience looks at those filthy fingers, realization becomes clear of what they are actually touching. The next word is “You”, this word gives the feeling and concern that one will touch those dirty fingers to dial a number. In referring to everybody and anybody no matter what skin color they might be. As the individual wanting to use the payphones keypad there is no question that touching those fingers are not an option. “Really Touch” are the next, but also the last words. Putting them together represents that, one who touches the fingers, are actually theoretically touching someone else’s filth. The text of this ad “What You Really Touch” by Sanzer is effective because it is giving, he or she the push to buying and using the product being promoted to prevent the dirt and sickness. Furthermore, art and text are not the only way of showing how effective this advertisement really is.

An ad will always have an audience to convince in buying their product. This ad is referring to everyone, because no one likes touching dirt. This advertisement gives the audience a sense that if they touch, they may acquire sickness or a disease. From a young age parents teach their kids to wash their hands to prevent the spread of germs to avoid sickness or diseases. Using the product promoted will help prevent the spread of not only dirt, but sickness and diseases.

In conclusion the ad “What You Really Touch” by Sanzer is effective because it spreads the awareness of what people are actually touching and how Sanzer hand gel can help them. This ad conveys effectiveness by the art, text, and the audience. When viewing this advertisement, it gives the perception that people will become more aware of they are actually touching. The advertisement is effective in persuading the viewer to buy the product and use it after touching what other people touch to regain “cleanliness”.
