Why Smoking Should Not Be Banned
Tobacco is one of the most lucrative industries in the world. This is because cigarettes contain chemical substances added to the tobacco in order for its users to become addicted. While many people believe tobacco alone differs from that which is included in cigarettes, tobacco within itself presents harmful side effects. Studies have proven to reveal more people die due to tobacco consumption than more severe substances such as cocaine, heroin, meth and other illegal drugs combined.
Why smoking should not be banned? Many believed that tobacco itself is harmful to the human body when it’s included in Cigarettes. But tobacco also has many positive effects to human body. Clopidogrel is a drug that is used for patients that are suffering from circulatory diseases. According to “5 Healthy Benefits of Smoking” by Christopher Wanjek, smoking helps the clopidogrel work better. “It seems that something in cigarette smoke activates certain proteins called cyto chromosomes, which convert clopidogrel into a more active state.” This helps Clopidogrel work better and helps the patient to recover faster. Smoking also help lower risks of death after a heart attack. Even though, smoking does contribute to catalyzing starting a potential at an early age but it was proven that non-smokers have higher risk of dying after a heart attack than smokers. “ So, one theory as to why smokers do better than non-smokers after such therapies is that they are younger, experiencing their first heart attack approximately 10 years before the non-smoker.” stated by Christopher Wanjek. Smokers had lower risk of dying after a heart attack is because they experience heart attack a lot earlier than the non-smokers, which means they are already having circulatory problems at a young age.
Despite the advantages of smoking, tobacco products still have a lot of harmful side effects. Based on the article, Should we ban tobacco by Tony Newman more people were killed for smoking cigarettes than inhaling cocaine and heroin and other drugs combined. “They kill more people than cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine and all other illegal drugs combined.” If they are a lot more harmful than illegal drugs then smoking should be banned as well. It was also proven by the American Pregnancy Association that smoking during pregnancy affects the fetus's development. “And over 1,000 babies die each year because their mothers smoked while pregnant.” Just by smoking, the mother is putting herself and the baby in risks. If it is putting the mothers and their babies at risk then why shouldn’t we ban tobacco product. Many babies are dying because of their mother’s stupid action during pregnancy.
Although smoking prevent you from dying after a heart attack but it will affect others that are near you. The main way smoking hurts non-smokers is through secondhand smoke. Secondhand smoke is the combination of both the smoke of cigarettes and the breath of the smoker. Secondhand cause cancer and other health problems. Over time, secondhand smoke can cause serious health issues like cancer and heart disease in nonsmokers secondhand smoke can cause cancer and other health problems. Smoking doesn’t just affect your body but also people that surround you. This time around it’s not just about your personal health but also others. What did non-smokers do to deserve having cancer or any kind of health issue when they don’t even smoke. The government should really outlaw cigarettes and any tobacco products.
Smoking cigarettes and other tobacco should be banned. Regardless of the benefits and the advantages of smoking, smoking cigarettes and other tobacco could cause not just the smoker itself but also people that are around them to death.
