To me, nursing is a selfless job. You put the patients’ needs before yours to provide them with the care that they deserve. As a nurse, you are the healing hands. With the energy, compassion, and dedication you build with the patients, you make a difference in so many lives at a desperate time of need. Unfortunately, my father was hospitalized and was in need of a heart transplant. I never felt so helpless. Every day seeing him depressed and in denial was very emotional and hard. My father spent his birthday in the hospital and the nurses helped celebrated his birthday by bringing him cake and balloons before their shift. It was an eye-opening experience seeing him finally smiling, bonding with the nurses and most importantly feeling safe. It allowed me to see that nurses are so much more; nurses are leaders. They are passion to serve, passion to care and passion to give.

Nursing motivates me to serve my community in many ways. I don’t want to feel helpless, as I know how it feels to be vulnerable during a family medical crisis. I believe having the ability to help others who are powerless and having the gift to make a difference in many lives, will bring me so much joy in my life. My desire to becoming a nurse is to care and to help the sick. I want to encourage and give hope when it is needed. I have always been happy with building relationships with people. Helping others always came naturally to me.

For years, I’ve watched my mother work as a caregiver for the elderly. I always admired her generosity and ability to take responsibility for someone else’s wellbeing. Seeing the happiness, she feels every day, caring for her patients and coming home with stories and work experiences, inspires my own interest in working in the medical field.
When being asked, “why did I choose to be a nurse”, it’s because of my parents. Seeing my father as a patient and my mother working hard as a caregiver, it motivates me chase after my dreams. I am compassionate, a hard-worker, organize, and a problem-solver. I believe that all these attributes play an important role and I will be honoured to study at Champlain College Saint-Lambert Nursing program and bring these qualities in my studies.

Expert Review
This essay reflects on the author's personal journey and motivation to pursue a nursing career. The writer discusses their perspective on nursing as a selfless and compassionate profession, citing personal experiences with a hospitalized father and a caregiving mother. The essay effectively conveys the emotional impact of these experiences and their influence on the writer's aspirations. However, while the essay provides a heartfelt account, it lacks depth in terms of addressing broader aspects of nursing and the profession's challenges and responsibilities. The writer could enhance the essay by delving further into their understanding of the nursing role, discussing relevant skills and qualities in more detail, and considering the broader impact of nursing on society and healthcare. Incorporating these elements will strengthen the essay's content and provide a more comprehensive perspective.
