What Is Social Media For The Modern Person
Would you want your kids to grow up in a world where there is constant jealousy and anxiety about how you look or appear online? A world where people as young as 10 years old are comparing themselves to people who do not naturally look how they appear on Instagram or snapchat. Social media has caused people to rethink everything and anything they do online from liking or posting a photo to sharing a post in case someone thinks that what they support or enjoy is meaningless. It wouldn’t hurt to cut down on it and spread more positivity in the world because it needs it.
What is social media today? A lot of people believe that social media is just torture for kids and young adults, which in a way it is. It doesn’t allow them to be 100% themselves because at first yeah, they will be but no matter who you are you're going to get hate and it can cause you to overthink and become more anxious and less confident. By constantly updating your status to where you are and what your dong can be followed up by stalking, it puts you and whoever you're with in a lot of danger.
Selfies drive you crazy. Did you know that selfies are one of the most frequent causes of death of the modern generation? People lose their fragile and precious lives just for stupid selfies. For example, in 2015, a news channel reported the death of a 21-year-old girl who fell down a mountain just for selfies. There are a lot of news and stories every day, and that statistic is increasing every day.
The people who post their selfies every day on social media have an issue of being praised by others. They look for attention from their friends and the world out there, styling in strange poses and unnatural styles, just to typically get more “likes'. Ther are a lot of people out there who are questionably obsessed with that small number under their post. They will criticize themselves until that number is as high as it can and will compare each post to the others, they’ve posted to see what gets the most attention, because that’s all they want. They want people to be just as obsessed with them as much as they are with themselves. They want likes, shares, comments anything if its attention they don’t care if its good or bad just if people see it. Some of them will take is as far to take the entire post down just because it didn’t get enough likes, even if the user loved the post, all that matters to them is that little number under it.
With this generation very few of them are speaking each other directly because of communication on social media like direct messages, facetime and tagging each other in memes. This can cause social anxiety for many people; you slowly lose your skills of how to speak to others face to face without feeling like you need to force the conversation to even some of your best friends. It's an awful feeling, I know it first-hand and it's difficult to tell yourself that you need to cut down on screen time and even harder to listen and do it. But once you do it you notice how much you don’t need your screen as much as you thought you did. You then start to spend more time with people you care about and who care about you. Spend as much time as you can with the people you love because you really don’t know when your last interaction can be.
Social networking sites benefit not only individuals, but also companies. These sites allow companies to advertise and offer services to a wide audience, and a profile can be created for free. Many companies have created profiles that provide detailed information about the business for inexpensive advertising. Businesses will get more attention on social media because the business profile is available for all social media users to view. Also, businesses like to use social media to find out what potential employees are like and make decisions based on the information provided in a person's profile, and because of this, many people have lost jobs because of what they posted online when they were younger.
I know I said a lot of negativity, but there are a lot of positives on social media. Social media is a great way to connect with people who live far away or if you don't see them. I know a lot of people have been using social media to communicate over the past few months because we weren't allowed to see each other if we contracted the coronavirus or passed it on to your loved ones. The coronavirus has affected a lot of people's mental health, and social media has really helped people come together and feel less alone if they live alone. You can express yourself by bragging about your favorite songs or posting pictures of your new outfit. It's much harder to feel embarrassed online than in person, so it's easier for people to express their feelings on social media like Twitter.
There is no doubt that having social media in our lives can lead to relationship breakdowns. But there is another side to this story: people move on to other, perhaps better relationships. Social media can help you connect with people you have a lot in common with, and that point of contact is often the starting point for long-term relationships. As painful as breakups can be, sometimes they can be the right solution for all parties involved. What's to say that a new relationship based on Instagram steps won't last? Even if it doesn't turn into an exciting couple, it can be the friendship that is needed at the time. Which should be a positive thing.
Social media is great for raising awareness about things like charities and movements. Using hashtags, social media is a powerful tool for people and movements to share their stories, reaching new audiences around the world. The list of campaigns is getting longer and longer every day as more and more people use social media to raise awareness and promote the movement. It also gives young people a voice and a platform to show how passionate they are about things and let a lot of other people know about it to get them involved and help..
Social networking has its advantages and its disadvantages like everything else does. The sites are continuously advancing and changing to fix the negative problems. One example would be accessing social networking sites using phones so that people can access the site on the go rather than sit at home on a computer. There are still a lot of problems that need to be fixed., Social networking is a very valuable tool that can be used to meet new people and allow people to stay in contact with friends. Even though it can waste time, social networking positively affects the world by allowing people to communicate and remain in contact with friends in an easy and convenient.
