In my childhood, I once went camping up north with my family and that is one experience I will never get off my mind. The place was just so quiet away compared to all the noise from the city and while it was scary at night, it really inspired me to grow a little garden in the backyard of our house. I needed someplace that whenever I went to would make me forget of the everyday pressure and noise I went through at school and work. I just wanted a place to relax, enjoy nature, and more specifically be outdoor. Waking up every day to the sound of engines of cars belonging to people who are rushing to make it work on time is a sound that always stuck in my head, so I decided to create a garden. Relaxing had just proved to be impossible around my work, school, or home. I wished that summer would come quickly so I could get away from all this loudness of the city not that we would go camping every time but the sheer experience of vesting a place where the only thing I hear was the sounds of birds singing and the whistling of tree leaves was just enough.

When I had the idea to create a garden in my backyard, I went for it and lucky for me, my parents were supportive enough and they even gave me a hand in making it a success. I’m not sure if there would be any garden for me to hang around if it weren't for them. As I stroll through the green grass and inhale the fresh air, it makes me realize how life is supposed to be a blessing with no trouble. And I can proudly say it’s only me and mother nature in my garden. Through the windows, I would hear the blaring sounds of the television with people rushing in and out of the room and as I head out to the place I love hanging most, my garden, all these sounds and distractions fade away. The outside is a whole new world, an overabundance of flora in Mother Nature’s most pretentious yet lovely form ranging from the tweeting of birds, the magnificent hues of fishing swimming in a nearby aquarium, and the sights of the garden to calm my soul.

However, there’s nothing so special about my garden other than the normal trees and flowers we usually see in other people’s with the addition of a couple of animals here and there just so they can make the environment feel more natural, but it sure does mean something to me. When school gets too nerve-wracking for me, or having a long stressed day at work, or even need a break from watching shows and movies, I just walk to my garden. I walk pass my sisters room, pass the washer and dryer that is on the right when I get out of my room, pass the living room, and open the sliding door, I get to my paradise. I love walking around the place bare foot, let my toes feel the coldness of the earth as my fingers run through the hibiscus blossoms and my eyes set out to feast on the beautiful sight of the clear blue sky. It really does stimulate all my body senses. As I smell the fresh air, my eyes glancing at everything not knowing what to exactly to look at, and hearing the leaves whistling through the cool breeze that is blowing through giving me chills all over my body not forgetting the sounds of tiny creatures that shelter within the plants.

There a lot of flowers that have filled my garden; roses including the purple ones that have a beautiful scent, hibiscus, and a small banana plant that I grew to see how good I am at that kind of thing. This is our house but with the garden thriving, we unwillingly share it with kingfishers, butterflies, squirrels, lizards from time to time but I hope it won’t come to a point of sharing the compound with coyotes. As I make my way towards my little aquarium to see how my fish are doing, I find myself smiling at how the golden ones hide underneath the plants, which is their natural instinct as according to them they don’t consider me much of an owner but rather as a predator. In addition to that, the fact a self-made container with some water in it, amazes me how life can flourish as long as they just have their basic requirements like water. From time to time I feel like watching bees at work. As I can hear the buzzing and see the yellow vibrant color on their tiny bodies.

They come looking for nectar in the most scented flowers to make their honey. At night, the place is fully transformed into an exotic and mysterious place all at once. You can hardly hear any sounds apart from the distant noise of cars passing by the roadside, and when theres no cars passing by the sounds of crickets chirping and frogs croaking. From the glistening of the moon over the trees all I can see is the surreal silver blanket that it leaves along its path. There is a peaceful silence since most creatures are dead asleep except for the nocturnal ones like crickets and not to mention the rustling of tree leaves from the blowing wind against everything in its way. The silence is so appealing that a couple amount of times I have fallen asleep. As I look up into the sky, I see a lot stars from little ones not shining that bright to big ones outshining the little ones. I could sit in my garden for such long time that I forget there are others things to attend to in the house, like assignments from school or doing chores around the house. Therefore, as much as I love my room, there is no doubt that the garden in my backyard has a special way of relieving my stress. Having the garden and hanging there has changed my perspective on many things including how much nature can have a positive impact on a person. It also offers peace mind which is good for our health considering the day to day pressure we go through.
