Early Life

Donald John Trump was born on June the 14th, 1946 in Queens, New York City. When Trump was 13 years old his parents (Fredrick Christ Trump and Mary Anne MacLeod) sent him away to the New York Military Academy, which is a private boarding school. His parents sent him there due to discovering that he was going into Manhattan without their permission on different occasions. Donald was a very bright student and succeeded very well in the private school. In 1964 Donald Trump enlisted at Fordham University and after two years he transferred to the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Finance and graduated with a B.S in economics in 196., During his 4 years of college, Trump received 4 student deferments and a medical deferment and was not drafted to the military service for the Vietnam War.

After college where Donald graduated first in his class, he joined his father’s business which was real estate development. Here he and his father developed apartments for the middle-class in New York City’s outer boroughs. Before joining the company, Donald Trump said he got into the real estate business by getting a “small loan” from his father. Eventually Donald took over from his father in 1971 and renamed the company “The Trump Organization”. Trumps father was his inspiration which he said after his passing in 1999. With this inspiration Mr Trump moved his family's trade from private units in Brooklyn and Queens to captivating Manhattan ventures, changing the rundown Commodore Hotel into the Amazing Hyatt and raising the foremost celebrated Trump property, the 68-story Trump Tower on Fifth Road. Other properties bearing the popular title taken after - Trump Palace, Trump World Tower, Trump International Hotel and Tower, and so on. There are Trump Towers in Mumbai, Istanbul and the Philippines. Mr Trump also developed hotels and casinos, an arm of the business that has led to four bankruptcy filings (for the businesses, not personal bankruptcy). Trump became very popular through the entertainment business and was especially popular in the tv show “The Apprentice”. He has a estimated net worth of 3.1 billion U.S dollars. In 2016, entered the presidential race as a member of the republican party and on his way defeated 16 different candidates including Hilary Clinton.

Leadership styles

Donald Trump most definitely has each of the 7 traits to be a leader in todays society. The man is a bit over the top but however, you can not deny that he does a great job at being a successful leader for both his businesses and his country. He has a very high desire for achievement, extremely ambitious. He shows a great desire to lead, a willingness to take responsibility. Trump is obviously very self-confident. A confident leader will make others feel confident with who they are being led by.

President Trump uses the “sink or swim” type of leadership style, being referred to as “management-by-exception.” This type of leader allows supporters to take more responsibilities in tasks, but only stops them to correct poor performance. In fact, Trump seems to allow subordinates a lot of leeway, but it is not a good idea to get on his bad side by stepping over the line and disagreeing with what he says because in that case you will get fired. This is a behavioural theory which was developed in Ohio State which is called consideration which means the leaders have mutual trust and respect for group members’ ideas and feelings. President Trump uses a variety of psychological techniques to draw in supporters and keep them faithful. He is a master of utilizing the well-known in-group, out-group inclination. Singling out “enemies” who are utilized to cement in-group support. Terrorists, migrants, Muslims, and as of late, Democrats, are recognized by Trump as potential sources of danger to his in-group of supporters. And, he has called the standard media as “enemies of the people.” In spite of the fact that this in-group, out-group bias builds support from Trump’s centre supporters, it makes it greatly troublesome for the opposing groups to ever work constructively together. This causes ineffective leadership within the long run.

Trump uses a charismatic leadership style. He is an extremely enthusiastic, self-confident leader. You can barely go a day without hearing about what Donald Trump is doing/saying on the news. He clearly has a vision with his “make America great again” slogan. A lot of his supporters, particularly those who don’t spend all day looking into the small details of politics connect with Trump with his simple speaking style. Another example of a charismatic leader is previous president of the United States. Trump is an bona fide pioneer within the way most individuals characterize authenticity– he means what he says and he will say what he means, even if sometimes what he says is completely outrageous. In spite of the fashion for so-called authenticity, the reality is that we live in a gigantically inauthentic world. Companies spend fortunes on PRs, marketers and brand consultants to portray themselves themselves the best that they can be to the public. People utilize social media to show how perfect their lives are. We all know how troublesome it is to get a straight reply out of politicians. This is most definitely not the case with Donald Trump. When he takes to Twitter, he doesn’t hold back in any way. He lets us know exactly what he thinks, whether we like it or not. Once you think about it, the thought of the foremost capable individual in the world sharing his contemplations with the public through social media could completely change the future of politics.

Trump also uses visionary leadership. He creates a new image of America by again using the “make America great again” slogan. He creates an attractive vision for the future of America. Since becoming President Trump has already began to improve his country. The economy added 4.6 million jobs, including nearly half a million in manufacturing. Economic growth quickened. The number of regulatory restrictions stopped growing. Carbon dioxide emissions stopped falling and have increased 1.4 percent under Trump. Illegal border crossings have gone up even with all the controversy Trump stuck to his word. Only 22,774 refugees resettled in the U.S. last year — down 76 percent from 2016. The trade deficit increased 20 percent. The federal debt rose by $1.7 trillion; annual deficits accelerated. After-tax corporate profits soared to the highest on record.

Analysis of leadership styles

Trumps charismatic leadership styles is good and bad in their own individual ways. Trump has obviously grown a massive support due to his antics. People love to see that they have a president who absolutely loves their own country and is trying to “make America great again”. He excels as being the centre of attention and is very good at being in the spotlight. Its what he lives for. However, with all this support also comes a lot of hate. People all over the world have negative things to say about Trump and people honestly do believe that he is not capable of being a president without putting the country in danger. Although he is a bit of a lunatic, Trump is still doing successful, so I have a mixed opinion when it comes to him being a charismatic leader.

As a visionary leader, Trump is obviously doing a great job. He set a vision for his country. Things for the public to look forward to in the future. He is trying to make his country the best and most powerful in the world and he is certainly doing a great job. He has built a strong relationship with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. A leader many people in America feared before. He uses his old traits as a business manager and interlinks them with his political skills to be the president his is today.
Overall, Trumps leadership style is good politically but needs to improve when it comes to the communication with the public. He is a very strong leader and will stick to what he thinks is best. He will not let anyone walk all over him. These are qualities you want to see in the leader of your country.

Recommendations

His clear intolerance to criticism and being very sensitive to the media and public, his tremendous requirements to be applauded and praised are not attractive characteristics as a leader. Even his most loyal followers seem to accept that his most extraordinary absurd language, his encouragement of negative energy and his damaging engagements with some weaker parts of society are inappropriate for an American president and he must change his ways if he wants the full backing of his country. His communication with the general public must improve drastically via social media and public speaking.

Through his speech and activity, Trump, on many different occasions has put a distance between himself and his other allies. His diplomatic skills are very poor. Trump announced that the United States will pull out of the Paris Climate accord, to the disgust of his allies. He pulled out even knowing that global warming is clearly a great danger with the temperatures ring along with the rising sea levels. He has also damaged relationships between the United States, Canada and Mexico by either renegotiating or withdrawing from the North America Free Trade Agreement. Obviously, the creation of the wall between the United States and Mexico have been enflamed the relationship also. It is clear that Trump needs to start building better bridges with his allies rather than burning them. His ignorance stops him doing this and it needs to improve for him to be called a great leader.

Conclusion

From growing up in Queens, New York. Donald Trump has really made a name for himself. First a very successful Business man who then ventured into politics to make the country who he grew up in to be the best it can possibly be. A controversial man yes, but no one can say that Donald Trump doesn’t put his heart and soul into everything he does as he puts his image on the line everytime he says something. A leader that expects nothing but the best. Enthusiastic, energetic, bold these are a few traits that draw his supporters in and keeps them loyal. Hopefully Trump can fix his character issues to become a truly great leader.
