Education is important in this day and age, even the simplest jobs require a certain amount of education. For example, high school education or a GED, high school students or drop-outs statistically have a harder time getting good long-term jobs. Sometimes people and school don’t get along; whether that be from learning disabilities, poor learning environment, money, personal issues, or strict grading policies. Certain factors make it hard to succeed, almost like a survival of the fittest complex. In an article written by Rebecca Lake, 70% of Americans will learn at a four-year school, yet under 66% will graduate with a degree, and 30% of first-year students drop out after their first year of school (Lake 2019). Most of this is because of financial reasons, lack of financial aid and impending debt tends to drive away many students. Mental health and stress are also factors, many students can’t handle the stress of debt, tons of assignments, tests, and risking their physical and mental health in order to be successful and follow their dreams. Another reason college students drops out is due to the requirement of remedial classes or “core classes” that adds more debt and postpone when the students graduate. Mechanics or engineering require lots of sciences such as physics, whereas doctors require sciences also except more biology and anatomy. Now if someones’ dream is to own a business nowadays you have to be a business major to succeed in that. I personally know people with dreams who never graduated highschool and lived rough lives, in that same group I know people who achieved their GED’s and also ended up dropping out of college due to the level of difficulty. Secondary school dropout rates have consistently been a hotly debated issue. In the course of recent years, it has diminished from 21% down to 17% (Kim P 2019). Which is good news for people, that means more opportunities for people to succeed and have a chance to attend college and get good jobs. To relieve the stress of student debt and extensive classes, should college education be free and should student have the right to choose exactly which classes to take?

The cost of college has gradually increased over many years, with that the need and requirement of college education has also increased. It is no longer a luxury, or for the smartest and wealthiest, it has become a necessity, in order to make a livable wage to be able to support you and others you must obtain a degree of some sort. Roughly the tuition for college has gone up by 8% each year, which means the cost doubles every nine years(FinAid 2019). What is worse is the debt you accumulate through college, the average student in Texas is about $14.6k of debt but more often than not the debt is far more(Hoffower 2019). These propositions are resulting from acknowledgment that our understudies are battling. Many can't head off to college since they can't manage the cost of it or won't trouble their families with the obligation. Most who graduate do as such with countless dollars of obligation, shackling them to leisers for a considerable length of time and restricting their profession alternatives. We should never again postpone our understudies' getaway from the decades-long winding of state cuts, higher educational costs, and decreasing budgetary guide(Page & Clawson 2019). Shouldn't we, as instructors and endorsers of the biggest educators' association in the country, remain with our understudies and battle to give them the open doors they deserve? We can get this going however just in the event that we, personnel, staff, and K-12 educators, as well, stand together with students and guardians and request that open advanced education is an appropriate for everybody, and not a benefit for the couple of. At that point, together, we can say to the individuals in control: Free isn't sufficient. It must be free quality training. That implies we need progressively residency framework workforce and full-time staff, better pay, advantages, and professional stability for extra personnel, and more help administrations. We know the intensity of aggregate activity since we have seen it here in Massachusetts where a bound together gathering of understudies, personnel and staff, united by PHENOM (the Public Higher Education Network of Massachusetts), won a $100 million lift in state financing, permitting grounds to employ more workforce and staff while solidifying educational cost and fees(Page & Clawson 2019). Here's a straightforward chronicled truth: in this nation, it is all inclusive projects that last and are secured, while optional projects like open advanced education are routinely cut. For what reason do Social Security and Medicare endure while welfare is gutted? For what reason does widespread K-12 instruction get considerably more financing, in state after state, while open advanced education has seen enormous cuts over the past age(Page & Clawson 2019)? The individuals who censure free advanced education ought to perceive that they have gotten no place by rehashing, again and again, that we need more assets.

Most college students, especially ones in community college, are placed into remedial classes based solely on test scores. Placement tests such as the TSI , STAAR, or ACT/SAT, are how schools determine what classes you can be placed in school. Therefore all the hard work or not, that was done in highschool is not reflected. For example, in highschool I was in multiple AP classes, sadly I had the worst testing anxiety, I flunked all of the expensive and important tests, but the overall grades in the classes were good. This can be both a good and bad thing, I have had to take certain tests multiple times to pass because of the stress I face. If I had passed my AP tests I would have started college without needing English, Math, or History. On the other hand, my GPA was terrible from the lack of effort I put in. Remedial courses are tricky, since most of the students are required to take these courses don't wind up completing their degree program. Healing courses must be paid for like other school classes, yet they don't offer credit that can be applied to graduation necessities. This postpones an understudy's time in school, and it makes the experience progressively costly. The New York Time expresses that short of what one-fourth of understudies who are put in healing projects win two-year degrees or move to a four-year foundation. Between 40% and 60% of first year students are put into remedial courses, out of that 50% fail to even complete the remedial classes. Remedial classes should be more of a tutoring or free alternative, most colleges are getting rid of theses classes.

In conclusion, college is stressful being forced to take certain classes and wasting money, putting you into even more debt. With any and every standard being set so high by society, it puts more and more pressure on the generations to feel as though they will succeed. I believe we need to make compromises to meet everyones’ expectations. Making more free public colleges to relieve stress on students and their future. Also remove remedial classes so students feel encouraged to succeed in their studies without being overwhelmed by the course work that counts for nothing.
