The Different Research Methods: Exploratory Vs Explanatory Research
Table of contents
Abstract
There are opportunities of substituting coffee – served traditionally hot with iced coffee. Qualitative expert interviews are developed and carried out to evaluate the differences in coffee preference by gender, and - by where they grew up (small town-rural vs. big city) during this research at hand(Creswell & Creswell, 2017). The research offers a list of examined factors affecting the differences in coffee preference by gender, and - by where they grew up. The research identified different factors that influence on the differences in coffee preference in the studied areas in the addition to ones abstracted from the literature.
Objectives of the study
The aim of this research is to evaluate the differences in coffee preference by gender, and - by where they grew up (small town-rural vs. big city).
Research Questions
Are there differences in coffee preference by gender, and - by where they grew up (small town-rural vs. big city).
Hypothesis of the study
There are differences in coffee preference by gender, and - by where they grew up (small town-rural vs. big city).
Research Approach
When researching, the focus is to relate the model with the topic of the study in the best way possible(Creswell & Creswell, 2017). There are three various methods an investigator can continue to establish the relationships between reality and theory with abductions, inductions, and deductions. Inductive approaches in the research study are linked to qualitative research methods and based on empirical findings. In the inductive approach, the hypothesis is developed based on the chosen theories that shall be empirically tested to find out if the hypothesis is unacceptable or unacceptable(Creswell &Poth, 2017). The deductive approach in the research study is linked to quantitative research techniques and based statistical results. In general, quantitative studies are positivists or post-positivist paradigm. Usually, they involve gathering changing data into statistical forms to enable numerical calculations and arriving at deductions or conclusion(Maxwell, 2012). The investigator will have a hypothesis to confirm. There are questions which the research is supposed to deal with and predict the possible correlations between the independent variable and dependent variable. Various techniques collect data following strict rules and organized by statistical analyses. The abductive approaches combine induction and deduction approaches(Merriam &Tisdell, 2015). For these studies, the researcher uses the inductive method. I began by choosing the topic of the study. The research questions are developed based on existing theories.
Research Design
Mixed research design is used for this research because it helps in achieving measurable findings. There are thee research designs’ types that include explanatory, exploratory and descriptive. Exploratory research is important when the researcher seeks new insights or aims to deeply comprehend problems.
Data Collection Method
There are two different types of sources researchers can use to establish the correct information to answer the research question; primary resource and secondary resource (Creswell & Creswell, 2017). The right method is chosen depending on available resources.
Primary resource
Primary data is information that has been collected straight from the researcher for the first time, specific for the current research question.
Secondary resource
The secondary data is all other sources that are not primary data and has been collected by someone other than the researcher (Creswell &Poth, 2017). It means that the information has been collected for another purpose and already exists when starting the investigation. Case studies and thorough literature review were vital methods of gathering information utilized for this study.
The research population
The researcher targeted more than thirty journals published between 2010 and 2019. The journals offered insight information regarding the topic of study and helped in answering the research questions (Maxwell, 2012). To give every item in the population a similar likelihood of being chosen, the stratified sampling was used for this research study.
Data Analysis
Data analysis methods involve gathering the collected evidence, organizing the data systematically, and arrangement of the vital elements of data in a manner where the findings can be properly relayed (Merriam &Tisdell, 2015). The conventional relative method of data analysis shall be used to examine the similarity and difference among the units of information gathered from different sources, using various data collection methods.
