King Charles I, the monarch over England, Scotland and Ireland, was once a deceitful enemy. He had a propensity for making bad decisions and was considered manipulative, devious and immoral. Charles' difficulties revolved around religion and the lack of money. Charles believed in the divine right of kings and thought he could govern and manipulate according to his conscience. Both, the Parliament and his subjects were alienated by Charles, which signified a sequence of events that conclusively lead to the civil war, the overthrow of the English monarchy and his death. He found some very unpopular means of raising money. For instance, he brought back an old ancient fee called ship money, where people had to pay to the king to provide warships for the navy.

As a result, Charles raised the money but used most of it for himself. In the movie, Charles ordered people to follow his rules, and if they disobeyed against his laws, they would receive harsh punishments. He was also in urgent desperation for help during the civil war. Charles was devious as he was never a sure judge of human character and tended to go over the edge in his love for those he felt were serving him reliably, like Buckingham. He likewise didn’t trust the loyalty of his people, and from the beginning of his reign, he transformed grants of taxation into trials of whether they preferred him and had trust in him.

Another deficiency which can again be followed back to his absence of confidence was his reluctance to bargain and negotiate. In the movie, he would generally attempt to cudgel his way through troubles by conjuring his position, expecting that once his desires were realized his subjects would quit quarrelling and obey him. The issues made by Charles' political style, his convictions and his absence of understanding as a ruler were revealed tremendously in the lead up to the English civil war.

Charles I made numerous mistakes throughout his reign that led to a civil war within England and conveyed his immorality. Charles chose to rule without parliament and introduced new taxes to fund his rather unnecessary wars with Spain and Scotland. Charles had also made personal and political decisions that upset his people.

Charles, I caused tyranny within England and was responsible for the murders, burnings, damage and desolation caused by the war. For instance, in the movie, Charles takes advantage of people, backstabs and betrays those whom he works with and gives his captors no other choice. He also finds himself in many dilemmas and stressful situations. The impressions that Charles' gave in the wake of going into war with Parliament was awful on the grounds because it outlined that Charles' I was a very thoughtless, stubborn and indecisive King that just cared about his rights to the Throne as opposed to making laws or policies for his very own nation.

After watching the film “Cromwell”, I was not astonished by the manner King Charles was portrayed as. The king had been levying illegal actions without the parliament’s full awareness. He had seized disgracing rules without parliament and found some very unpopular means of raising money. The movie portrayed the character very well as it manifested the evil thoughts and actions he partook in during the various scenes. It also showed his character traits in a detailed and precise way. The movie demonstrated that Charles, more than any other individual, was the most responsible for the overall disaster.
