While at it, I will delve into “Family” a subset of the society through which its manipulation has attracted the alienation of traditional societal concepts. With the help of scholarly ideologies written in numerous literature sources and approved statistical data the essay will clarify the thoughts raised and articulate them honestly and accurately integrate the ideas of others in a respectful and critical manner. All in all, the central theme of essay body corelates with the main thesis. i.e., Granting Legal Marriage Rights to Gays and Lesbians Would Threaten the Stability of The Family, A Pillar of Our Society. At the end of the paper, a closing statement reaffirming the central theme will be made.
The informality of family life is a blessed condition that allows us all to become our best while looking at our worst. It is the core societal entity that sustains the continuity of generations after generations. On a personal level, the family gives one the roots to stand strong and tall. Unfortunately, the value of family has been depreciating since the onset of humanitarian movements such as LGBT were introduced. Certainly, the advocates of same-gender marriage place much emphasis on pleasure forgetting reproduction, which is the central role of a family. All odds considered, legalizing the union of persons of the same gender is a direct threat to the stability of the family and the general society.
Legalizing gay marriage and Lesbianism is not only a threat to society but also an act of selfishness. According to the scientists, it is only through the union of a female and a male egg that two partners get to sire children- In the family domain, children were considered the fruit of a marriage and a crucial facet through which a society is refined (Burch para 70). Therefore, it implicates that everyone should play a role in the refinement of society. Unfortunately, the marriage of people of the same gender is more of a self-centered act that vests in intimacy and pleasure- The fact that nothing is given back to fend the future posterity deems it a selfish act that should be condemned with the strongest terms possible. What most LGBT activists forget is that it took the past generations to build the current generation, suppose they were all gay and lesbians, the extinct of the human generation could have occurred. Therefore, granting marriage rights to people of the same gender literary kills society.
The question of morality is also critical to focus on when dealing with gay and lesbian marriage. Morals are considered to be the principles that guide individual conduct within society. An article was written by Yasir, Muhammad, and Noor Azmi Mohamad provides that morality requires people to sacrifice their short-term interests for the benefit of society (Yasir et al., para 49). History provides that homosexuality activities and same-sex love existed in ancient societies and is even documented in some of the oldest books such as the bible. However, an important point to note is that such behaviors were always condemned and punishable. The first known case of a homosexual activity received a death sentence in North America occurred in 1566 (Morris, para 10). It, therefore, means that the current rebel against ancient norms is a retraction from approved societal norms and is bound to bring considerable harm to society.
A close examination of some of the immediate impacts a stable family has on children will pinpoint on how same-sex marriage affects the society at large. Other than improving the – psychological wellbeing of men and women, children who are raised by their biological parents within a stable marriage enjoy better health, subsequent adult relationships, and educational outcomes. In a research conducted by Li and Qiu echoes these sentiments by reaffirming that children who grow up in an intact family achieve higher school scores, report significantly less school-related behavioral problems and higher aspirations for tertiary studies.
