This paper will analyze the case study "Kejimkujik National Park" and some problems. The company needs effective management and comprehensive resource management goals because Kejimkujik National Park is lack of experience and human resources. Tourists have a low awareness of environmental behavior cause the environmental damage of the park. The paper provides solutions to solve these problems. The company should hire manager who have experienced to train employees and make some environmental protection policies to remind travelers of their behavior and make them obey the rules. Let tourists enhance their awareness of environmental protection.
Background
The Kejimkujik National Park was approved in 1978. The park in the Atlantic Coast Uplands Natural Region in Canada, Nova Scotia. There are six departments in the Kejimkujik national park. The new policy has caused serious tension in the park service in Canada. Senior management needs to reallocate internal resources. They will develop and implement a plan to meet the new financial policy objectives while ensuring the integrity of the memorial and the preservation of ecological integrity.
Evaluation
The problems are the employee lack of experience because the management of the company has no experience to train the staff in tourist service. The services are limited and it is hard to deliver the resource to everyone. Also, different departments fail to work together, it is difficult to share their resources and accomplish their tasks. The human resource is shrinking and the services cannot satisfy all the tourists meets. There are many inexperienced tourists and the guards are hard to ensure tourists safety. For example, visitors did enter the park through this area without the knowledge of park staff. The environmental damage in the park is due to the fact that more and more tourists are not aware of the in appropriate environmental behavior. Through the 'KEJIMKUJIK NATIONAL PARK', the Chief Park Warden said, ' some users are unfamiliar with environmental ethics and will cut branches from trees for firewood, carving in trees, use birch bark to start fires, and purposely or inadvertently disturb wildlife habitat.' Constructions of roads, campsites, parking lots and artificial beaches during the development of Kejimkujik national park have affected turtle nesting places. The company is lack of human resources, increasing numbers of visitors to parks and global warming cause park’s ecological system is damage.
Proposed solutions
There are some solutions. First, the company should encourage different departments manager working together and expanding human resources. Second, there are more modernize of the park services. Third, the company open a gift shop and sell souvenir. The first solution is the most effective. The company needs to hire experienced staff and have them take part in training. According to Government of Canada (2017), leadership is established by assisting and cooperating with others. A leadership role involves a broader responsibility to the conservation and interpretation community within Canada as well as other countries. So establish a good cooperation relationship between management and employees can improve work efficiency. Teamwork takes advantage of the special expertise of people from different functional areas of the company. Therefore, training and other forms of cooperative assistance are need to share experiences and expertise. Managers organize information about a given job by performing a job analysis. They list duties of the job responsibilities and job specifications, which list the qualifications are skills, knowledge, and capabilities. (Collins, 2012) The park ensures that visitor center staff receive training and are responsible for providing appropriate safety information. Another, the company should be well aware of the risks faced by visitors and provide resources in the most effective way to minimize the possibility and severity of accident consequences.
Recommendations
Environmental management system (EMS) is a management structure that allows an organization to assess and control the impact of activities and services on the environments (Standards Council of Canada, 2019). The Kejimkujik National Park need a whole system of institutions in order for visitors to pay attention to park policies, realize the importance of protecting the environment, and reduce damage to the environment. The company should hire experienced managers and train employees to develop new skills. Management needs to improve and implement the plan. The park needs to address these issues including hazard assessment, risk management and ecosystem management. Risk management provides all levels of management with the information they need to make informed decisions when faced with problems. As well as the company need pay attention to the safety of visitors and tells them to protect the park environment.
