Story Summary Of The Book A Wrinkle In Time By Madeleine L'engle

A Wrinkle in Time, by Madeleine L?Engle, begins with Meg, a troubled student, Who goes downstairs on a ?dark and stormy night.? She finds her brother, Charles Wallace, and her mother at the kitchen table. Charles Wallace is a boy, Who is not yet of school age but is very very bright. The mother is a beautiful scientist Whose husband, also a scientist, went missing a year ago, while on a job for the government.

The family dog, Fortinbras starts barking at the door to the mother?s laboratory. The mother goes to check It out, and comes back with a woman Who Charles Wallace recognizes as Ms.. Whatsit, who says that she lives at the haunted house in their town. Ms.. Whatsit says that she came in to seek refuge from the storm, and get the water out of her boots. As she goes, she says to the mother, that ?there is such thing as a tesseract? which obviously strikes the mother.

The next day, after school, Charles Wallace and Meg walk the dog to Ms.Whatsit?s house, and meet Ms.Who, a woman like Ms.Whatsit but who can only speak in quotes. On the way there they meet Calvin O?Keefe, a boy from Meg?s s school. He joins them. Calvin goes with Charles and Meg back to their house for dinner.

After dinner Meg and Calvin are in their backyard, when Charles Wallace comes out from the shadows and says that ?this is the time.? Then Ms.Whatsit and Ms.Who come from the darkness as well, with Ms.Which, who is like Ms.Whatsit, and Ms.Who, except she can?t materialize completely. Ms.. Which tells them that they are about to ?tesser? which is basically teleportation between planets. They are going to find Meg and Charles Wallace?s dad.

When they do that, they land on a planet called Uriel. When they get there, Ms.Whatist transforms into a pegasus with a human head. They then fly into the atmosphere and see a giant floating black thing. Ms.Whatsit tells them the black thing is what makes everything bad and evil. Then they go to visit a see-er called the ?Happy Medium? who will help them look back at their home. They see their mother looking sad and writing a letter to their father. Then they decide that they have to go to Comazotz, the planet where the black thing or ?IT? lives to find their dad. The Ms.?s say that they can?t go with the kids to Comazotz and the children ?tesser? on their own.

When they arrive on Camazotz, they see children bouncing balls and jumping rope in time with each other. The mothers all come at the the same time to tell the kids it?s dinner time. No one looks at anyone else or speaks to one another. Calvin Meg and Charles Wallace continue down the street until they see the buildings turn into work offices. At the end of the road, they see a building labeled the Central Central Intelligence.

They go inside and meet a man with red eyes who hypnotizes Charles Wallace. Charles Wallace then shows the kids to their father who they save, but then Charles Wallace takes them all to ?IT.? Then they see that IT is a giant brain on a dais. IT has been mind-controlling everyone in Camazotz including Charles Wallace and the man with red eyes. Before the IT, can take control of the others, the father is forced to Tesser away with Calvin and Meg, leaving Charles Wallace behind.

Calvin, Meg and Meg?s dad land on a planet in which the inhabitants are furry with tentacles and cannot see. However, they are kind, and they help nurse the family back to health. Then the Ms.?s arrive, and they have a council about who should go save Charles Wallace. They determine it can only be Meg by herself.

She goes to Camazotz and rescues Charles Wallace. She is able to break his hypnosis by the force of her love, the one thing that she has and ?IT? lacks. She is then tesserated home with her family by Ms.Which, and the family is happily reunited.
