Living in a world where all you worry about is how many likes you can get on a post can be extremely dangerous to a person's mental health. Sometimes they don’t get the likes they were hoping to get and it actually makes them feel less important as a whole. People, especially teenagers can easily acquire mental diseases. Studies from, “Psychology Today, Sussex Publishers, Over the past five years there has been a proliferation of studies assessing how excessive social media use can impact negatively on health. In a recent paper Dr. Kuss reviewed the latest research on the topic. and showed that social media use for a minority of individuals is associated with a number of psychological problems, including anxiety, depression, loneliness, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, and addiction. Because social media is most frequently accessed via smartphones, their usage is intimately intertwined and their mobile nature contributes to excessive checking habits, which often derives from what is commonly labelled as the fear of missing out (FOMO).” The way of life today, millions of people are on all social simultaneously; so the fear of missing out is more common than ever. And even though they have a fear of missing out online, they are completely missing out on skills that are necessary in the real world.

People today will get so obsessed with their likes and retweets, they tend to not care about their failing relationships in real life. Teens who spend an unhealthy amount of time on social media often struggle with anxiety, simple communication skills, and it can ruin a child’s vocabulary. According to “Thrive Global, Social media is affecting our relationships and decreases the quality of interpersonal communication. Another impairment of communication skills caused by the extensive use of social media platform is the impoverishment of language. Using messengers’ people often use shortened versions of words in order to type and deliver their messages as quickly as possible. Shortened versions like “k”, “ttyl”, “ur”, “der”, “gr8”,”cu”,”tc” and so on completely ruins the grammar and syntax. It also develops the use of slang terms and sometimes people tend to forget that they are neglecting the beauty of language when they are online busy with social media.” We often don’t even realize how our vocabulary is slowly decreasing; but if you go back and read your own messages you sent to a friend, you would see abbreviated texts and misspelled words more than you might think.

Another way social media is bad for society is, it can ruin your self-esteem. One way social media ruins self-esteem is seeing your peers doing things you want to do, or getting the things you want. If you were to see your friends you graduated with getting jobs you want, you would ask, “why didn’t I get the job?” An article from, “ Huffpost says, research shows that people who spend an immense amount of time on social media, are more likely to end up being depressed and have low self esteem. However, Emotionally secure people do not struggle as much with these issues. However, a large portion of our population has emotional insecurities and these folks are the ones that would benefit from a dating consultation to provide them with the tools and support to learn how to more effectively communicate their needs and desires. Social media and texting have made it all too easy to default to one’s own perception rather than remain curious about what may actually be going on.” cautions Rhodes.” It can also be dangerous and lowering self-esteem in a way of, once you post something, no matter how bad you want it gone, it is never actually deleted.

Posting a picture, you should almost always have to ask yourself if its a good idea. Once you post something, you can never fully delete it. This can be very dangerous considering there are many dark sides of social media and how easy it is to screenshot anything you want to by the pressing of a button.
