Self Assessment And Self Reflection

Generally, an instructional leader role is not only demanding and time-consuming but it is also complex such that instructional leaders are required to employ different methods in their career. Instructional leaders are also expected to be innovative in education, help in the curriculum, also take leadership in instructions, become community leaders, guardians, and budget analysis. The many roles instructional leaders have acted as a distraction from their primary work and maybe too much for any person who wishes to perform best at the highest level consistently.

Self-Reflection

In the process of performing all these roles, I am likely to make mistakes while also gaining some experience and thus I will use them in future actions. In Fact, the most important aspect will be that I will always question myself about such experiences and what they mean in any context. More so, I will critically evaluate these experiences thus make changes that may be deemed necessary to achieve change. In fact, that is what self-reflection entails since it will allow me to move from the experiencing level to the understanding level. By reaching the understanding level, it will aid me in achieving self-awareness while enabling me to identify my areas of weaknesses and strengths.

According to Ross (2006) reflection is an important part of self-evaluation since it helps in internalizing what one knows and has learned. Therefore, I will be able to know which areas are not clear to me through evaluation, work on them, therefore, enabling me to have a deeper understanding rather than superficial knowledge. A deeper understanding will enable me to have better leadership and explain decisions better to either students in school, staff, or the community I am engaged with.

Self -Assessment

As an instructional leader, although self-reflection is important in allowing me to have a deeper knowledge, the self-assessment will help me to move forward in terms of individual growth, intellectual development and help me to create goals that will help me to identify my weak areas, (Lamar University, 2020). As an instructional leader, I want my fellow teachers to understand that despite being instructors they are also learners and so the use of self-assessment is important to them since education is advancing each day. By becoming an expert in self-assessing my staff will be able to use me as a role model (Lamar University, 2020).

Hicks et al, (2010) argue that self-assessment is important to me to get the student or community to get engaged and motivated in their learning, and through it, I will be able to consider myself forever a learner. This will not only keep me engaged in everything I am learning but also motivated me as an instructional leader both professionally and personally. By self-assessing myself, all stakeholders can view me as an expert and therefore trust me in leadership roles.
