Biography

He was born Sacha Noam Baron Cohen on the 13th day of October, 1971 in Hammersmith, London, England to his father, Gerald Baron Cohen, a clothing store owner and his mother Daniella Naomi, both of whom have Jewish origins. He was raised according Jewish traditions and alongside his two older brothers; Erran and Amnon. Talking about his racial background and status, he’s British by nationality and belongs to white ethnic group and also speaks Hebrew fluently as his native language.

As regards his educational background, he first started at Haberdashers’ Aske’s Boys’ School in Elstree, Hertfordshire. After graduation, he attended the University of Cambridge, and studied history at Christ’s College, Cambridge, and bagged an upper-second-class honor in 1993. During his days at Cambridge, he joined the Cambridge University Amateur Dramatic Club, where he performed in plays like Fiddle on the Roof and Cyrano de Bergerac.

Following his graduation from the university, he took to modeling. His journey into the world of TV shows and movies started when he began hosting a weekly show on Windsor cable TV with Carol Kirkwood. In 1995, he got the perfect opportunity to showcase his comedic talent when he sent his personal self-recorded tape of a character named Kristo (a fictional character which would later developed into Kazakh Borat Sadiyev) to Channel 4, after its announcement to TV presenters that the channel is planning to replace its series “The Word.” And it did catch the producer’s attention. He also hosted a show briefly on Pump TV between 1995 and 1996.

The years that follow saw him became a presenter for a youth chat show F2F for Granada Talk TV and a minor role in an advert for McCain Microchips. He went to Paris to train as a clown at the Ecole Philippe Gauilier. In 2000, he got his first shot in acting in a British comedy film “The Jolly Boys’ Last Stand.” Within the same year, he also played the role of Super Greg in a TV advert for Lee Jeans; it was never aired, however it attracted a lot attention on the internet.

Today, Cohen is happily married to an actress Isla Fisher. They two first came into contact in 2002 during a party in Sydney, Australia. It was love at first sight; they couldn’t hold but allow it to flow. They got engaged in 2004 and following Fisher’s conversion to Judaism, the lover birds walked down the aisle on the 15th of March. 2010 in Paris, France, in what is a strictly Jewish wedding ceremony. They are blessed with three kids; 2 daughters Olive born in 2004, Elula born in 2011, and a son Montgomery born in 2015.

He has won series of award in his ever-blazing career which include; Best Newcomer award at the British comedy award in 1999, 2 BAFTA awards for his performances in “The Ali G Show”, it was accompanied by Emmy nominations, Academy nominations and Golden Globe nominations. Cohen also got an Outstanding Achievement Award at the British Comedy Award in 2012.
