Finding Inspiration to Study Science
The human body has been a mystery to me, and I have always taken an interest in pinpointing the exact needs to detect health symptoms. My grandmother’s anxiety, high blood pressure and diabetes, and her sisters’ breast cancer was often a conversation starter within our family. This is where I was immediately interested in the medical field and also because I had to witness my family members facing their health issues every day. My main goal is to make a significant contribution to the health and well-being of the people in my community through careful management, treatment of the highest quality available, and the best health care being delivered to anyone in need of it.
I became even more interested in the medical field, because I would see my grandmother, as well as her sister getting sick and it would terrify me. I would take my grandmother’s hand and hold it, hoping that I could take all the pain that she felt away. My gesture seemed to give her a sense of comfort and she would squeeze my hand back as if she were telling me that she knew what I was trying to do. Therefore, the origin of my own desire to help others has been inspired by my grandmother’s and her sister’s health.
Having a career in the medical field has always appealed to me because people who work in this field seem very reliable, trustworthy, and they can help treat the sick. I want to do the same as everyone in this field, starting with an education in university and then medical school. I want to be able to develop new treatments by experimenting with older ones so we can be a step closer to curing diseases. I want to understand the way the human body works, and what kind of treatments I am able to apply for specific diseases and different parts of the body. As I grew older; In high school I discovered that I can continue to excel in the sciences. My interest in the field of sciences continued to grow throughout all this time. I was thrilled and realized that I wanted to take biology, chemistry, and physics classes and I would enjoy the fact these classes would be fundamentally related to medicine.
My goal is to focus on health services with special populations that will enable me to be successful in managing the integration in new health care delivery systems, technology innovations, and the increased focus on preventive care. I want to learn on how we as a society deal with providing the best quality of care for all citizens including the opportunity to a robust system that grants equal access to health care and any health-related services to its users. Everyone is entitled to be in their best state of health, whether that means mental or physical. I look forward to working in an environment that allows me to create as well as to obtain an exceptional health care.
There are multiple careers that interest me in the medical field which include; Registered Nurse, Medical Laboratory Technician, Occupational Therapist or Physical Therapist. Each of these careers require dedication to fulfill a role in our society to help others in any possible way, whether it be small or a big change. I plan to go to a university where I can receive a bachelor’s degree in Health Science. After university I hope to go to a medical school that will help me learn even more about this field and these careers that I listed above. I also want to volunteer hands-on at local hospitals and nursing homes to gain experience. This will not only help me boost my confidence with being able to help others but also within myself to achieve my dream.
