According to Zailani et al. (2015), in the business world today, heralded by vigorous and cut-throat competition, it has become imperative for businesses to be innovative and adopt the new technology in order to gain a sustainable competitive advantage. In as much as companies are looking for ways to attain a sustainable advantage, Wells et al. (2013) argue that they are also looking for better ways to monitor the ongoing activities in their supply chain especially those in transit. It is important to note that a business that is able to respond to these events on a timely basis differentiates itself from other organizations and it stays ahead of the other organizations in competition. In-transit supply chain monitoring requires a company to incorporate data from all areas of the business and sometimes it requires global use of data (Bendul & Skorna, 2016).

An organization, as noted by McKinney et al. (2015), requires to review its past performances against the industry-specific key performance indicators in order to benchmark how different areas of the business are performing. Whenever a business is not able to see its current view, it might miss the potential roadblocks and be unable to adjust effectively. This essay aims to give a comparison of two companies using the in-transit supply chain monitoring and chose one from the two with reasons.

To start, most of the successful companies are able to respond to the agility of the supply chain needs. Today, millions of people are engaged in social networks and more than 20 billion devices connect to the internet. According to Wells et al. (2013), these are some of the contributing factors to the explosion of data that is readily available thus making it more difficult to monitor the activities in the supply chain. As a result, it has been key for to companies to be able to monitor the supply chain activities, an end to end process from planning and production to the final destination whereby products are delivered to the customers. Organizations that are unable to separate important issues from the minor ones are at a higher risk of not succeeding in the connected world. As McKinney (2015) asserts, the earlier a critical issue becomes apparent, there more time there is to resolve it at a lower cost and impact to the supply chain.

According to Zailani et al. (2015), the ability to monitor, trace, track and respond to events more swiftly makes the management of global supply chain much easier. A good company that has endeavored to make such daily activities for companies easier is Arviem. Founded in 2008, Arviem’s headquarters are based in Baar Switzerland operating with about 50 employees. Over the years, Arviem has grown to be a leading provider of real-time cargo monitoring (Musa, 2014). It is globally known that due to the inefficiency and vagueness in control along the supply chain, about 30% of the shipment is damaged, 30% of the perishable goods never reach the expected destinations and there is about $60 billion stolen cargo.

According to Wells et al. (2013), Arviem offers an in-transit supply chain and cargo monitoring services on a subscription and payments are done per every trip. The company monitors, analyses and reports on all aspects of the cargo and supplies on real-time. Zailani et al. (2015) note that Arviem is a company which makes sure that everything that happens to the cargo is reported to the client in order for him/her to take immediate action.

Critical decisions are very important in correcting the negative trends in order to avoid these trends becoming costly problems. From a business point of view, the importance of using in-transit cargos monitoring services inn supply chia is the assurance that it delivers information effectively thus, clients are aware of the conditions of their products (Bendul & Skorna, 2016). Arviem ensures that their cargo monitoring service is proactive as supplying real-time facts means improving the entire supply chain management leading to improved quality assurance, satisfied clients and customers and improved inventory management.

According to Zailani et al. (2015), cargo theft, diversion and pilferage have been on the rise in recent years leading to companies incurring billions of financial losses. The aim of Sensitech is to establish a solution for monitoring products and services in the transit supply chain by mitigating the associated risks of theft, diversion, counterfeiting, and other cargo security threats. Founded in 1990, Sensitech is an organizations that operates as a private business support services industry based in Beverly, Massachusetts. This company has about 430 employees (Musa, 2014). Sensitech is among the leading industries with security expertise in innovative monitoring and is a partner of choice in securing valuable cargo across the global supply chain.

Using their layered solutions such as using tracking devices, Sensitech can actively monitor cargo anywhere in the globe thereby mitigating risks of theft. The company is able to provide real-time transparency of the cargo in transit. In addition to tracking, it monitors and protects the quality of the cargo thereby ensuring that there is a close check on the cargo until it reaches the expected customers (Musa, 2014). According to Wells et al. (2013), Sensitech has strength in product condition monitoring, logistics, visibility and security which offers an exciting option for clients or organizations seeking supply chain security solutions.

In my opinion, Arviem is the better company providing in-transit supply chain and cargo monitoring. First, Arviem is able to separate the most important issues of cargo security from the minor ones thus, its rate of success in cargo monitoring is higher. Second, Arviem is a company which makes sure that everything that happens to the cargo is reported to the client in order for him/her to take immediate action.

This ensures that there are improved quality assurance, satisfied clients and customers and improved inventory management. Unlike Sensitech which focuses on reducing cargo theft and diversion, Arviem has the ability to monitor, trace, track and respond to events more swiftly makes the management of global supply chain much easier.
