Discussion On Biotechnology And Gene Research
This discussion is on biotechnology and gene research, what are main goals for accomplishing this and will it change the pharmacy industry today. In doing this research, we are to give reasons why or why not in these areas.
What exactly is biotechnology? It’s basically technology that’s based on biology, this applies to cellular and biomolecular processes that help to provide and promote having a healthy planet and help with developing products that will help us to have healthy lives. Biology is a part of science that analyzes the nature of life and in plant, animals and the simple parts of living.
The goals of biotechnology are that is has helped develop our country and with the area of learning about the science of bacteria and cells like negative bacteria which everyone has. Also, the development of health products, promoting drugs and conserving energy, biotechnology is responsible for the environment, clothing the impact of medicine, clothes, edibles, cheese, beer, wine and bread these are all developments of biotechnology.
What is gene research consist of? Genetic research is to uncover the contributions of genes to health and disease also, common disease like mental illness, cancer and heart disease. There are four tests that can provide different angles of genetic research and these include the following:
“Preimplantation diagnosis (PGD) on fertilized eggs to detect diseases.
Prenatal diagnostic testing conducted on foetuses to detect/exclude the possibility of deformities or diseases such as cystic fibrosis, Folling's Disease etc.
Diagnostic tests conducted on a person in order to detect hereditary diseases, either presymptomatically, meaning the detection of a disease that will not turn up until later in life (like Huntington's chorea), or predictive, where a person's disposition for a hereditary or semi-hereditary disease (such as breast cancer) is identified. Predictive tests do not provide a definite answer as to whether a person will become ill.
Genome sequencing. A person's entire genome can be sequenced, and unlike points 1–3, which only concern certain genes, genome sequencing can provide information about all genes. How this can be used in the diagnosis and treatment of disease is not clear” (Ingeborg, Anne).
In my opinion, I agree with research because not only can it benefit our planet but being able to detect certain types of disease or illnesses for humans including being able to detect certain birth defects for unborn children while informing the parents, so they can beware of what can expect and get prepared for. Also, this research can be very beneficial to us by knowing how to better take care of our planet, environment and ourselves and our wildlife, I think these types of research are very educational and very wise to inform us all on living a healthy and saving our planet.
