Diplomat – My Dedication And Career Choice
The population is constantly moving forward to achieve the ideal society, along this path, humankind encounters numerous conflicts for which a solution is needed, sometimes we are able to solve the problem and other times we are not. Countless problems that have developed in history are due to the poor relationships among two or more countries. Thanks to my grandparents I took the habit of reading the news, at first I must say I found it quite tedious, but gradually I began to familiarize with actual situations happening inside and outside the borders of my country. Reading those articles in the newspaper troubled me, I remember feeling so small and powerless.
Over the last few years I’ve realized how much I love learning about cultures, traveling and helping people in any way I can. But it wasn’t until last year, after learning more thoroughly about international conflicts, that I felt the necessity to support and contribute to the changes in a real and compromising way. Doing so I’ve realized that I had defined my passion: I want to dedicate my life to understand how the world works and what actions can I take to improve it.
I’ve had the opportunity, to which I consider myself extremely lucky, of living in two unique countries, my homeland Spain, and Mexico, where I spent more than half of my life. During my stay in Mexico, I’ve learned about it's fascinating culture and people. It caught my attention how society worked differently in both countries, for example, I couldn’t understand how it was possible that such a large part of the population in Mexico was living in extreme poverty, while in Spain this did not happen. This situation bothered me, so I decided to do something; I enrolled in a couple of volunteer works. One was in Sierra Gorda and the other was in Queretaro. I went to towns stricken by poverty, where I took care of children and helped reconstruct part of a church, among other activities. Since I enjoyed so much this experience, I decided to involve in more humanitarian programs.
Recently I started helping in an organization call Berakah. We give school support to immigrant children from my hometown Vitoria. Volunteering has been a life changing experience, where I had the opportunity to grow as a human being. I developed skills such as teamwork, communication and leadership, that have proved to be extremely useful. More importantly, it helped me construct a new perspective of how our society is structured. As for school, for my final years I’ve selected courses that I felt extremely excited about, such as Economy, History, Philosophy and Geography. From each course I’ve learned to what extent our globalized world is influenced by them. All of these courses have helped me understand the world in the past and in the present, and how is not only one factor. For example, Philosophy has enlightened me about the roots of many of the existing government forms and the thinkers whose influence is very much present today. I’ve participated and seen a couple of debates at my school which I found fascinating. Not only did I learned about the conflicts happening all around the world, but most importantly I got to see how the perspective of each student in the debate changed depending on the experience each one had had, or the environment that person grew up in… that made the discussion a much more rewarding experience.
Apart from these courses I have also taken Spanish, English and French. In the first two I’m fluent and in French I have a basic knowledge. I find languages to be of vital importance for the course. Although it may represent a challenge for me to study all the course in English, I’m more than eager to take up this challenge. Nowadays we live in a world that’s globalized, and since I want to study for diplomat I know that languages and communication among people are key to having good relations. So I find languages to be an excellent tool to grow and develop as a student, worker and person.
Beside the school, I have other interests. For as long as I can remember I’ve always done sport, my favorite one is swimming. I’ve being in the representative team of the International School of Queretaro. As a result I have acquired skills that have help me in school and in life in general, for instance it helped me become stronger and overcome challenges I thought before to be impossible, and this helped me become much more confident in myself.
