The following year, he captured the WBA (Regular) middleweight championship title after his triumph over Jarrod Fletcher in August 2014. He defeated Peter Quillin and Sergio Mora respectively to defend his title in 2015.Looking for a more powerful opponent, Jacobs began negotiations with Gennady Golovkin prior to his big fight against Canelo Alvarez in 2016. The duo later fought in March 2017 and the match took place at the Madison Square in New York City. Daniel Jacobs fought Gennady to a full twelve round but finally lost to Gennady. Later in the same year, Jacobs signed up with Matchroom Boxing promotions in a bid to show his matches on HBO.

In 2018, Gennady Golovkin who was the current IBF titleholder was stripped of his title following his failure to adhere to the IBF rules. Jacobs is scheduled to fight with the Ukranian boxer Serhiy Derevianchchenko for the vacant IBF middleweight title. The fight will take place on November 10, 2018, at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum situated in Uniondale, New York.
